The sound of breaking glass and shattering door startled the two toughs. They reached for their guns on the table but too late. Richard kicked the table over and sent the guns scurrying into the corner. With a powerful cry, the larger of the two men lunged for John, throwing a powerful fist to his jaw. John could feel blood on his lip and an ache in his right cheek. The man lunged again, but John sidestepped and tripped the brute with his foot. He then picked up one of the heavy wooden chairs and smashed it over his head. The man laid tongue out and cheek against the floor. His eyes were bulging as if he might have a concussion. John immediately turned to check Richard. The second man had punched Richard in the stomach and was advancing to hit him again. Richard dodged him and moved to the corner, thus limiting the fellow's movements. As the man advanced the second time, Richard waited until he was close in and raised his knee to the man's groin. The fellow screamed and bent over, clutching his crotch and moaning. John immediately yanked the belt from his waist and tightly bound the arms of the man trying to grasp his crotch. Richard turned toward Gabriel. He removed the gag first as carefully as he could. Gabriel licked her lips. "So dry," she murmured, trying hard to keep her voice steady. Then, despite her efforts, she gave over to low sobs of sheer terror and fatigue.

Along the way they become entangled in murders, the kidnapping of the daughter of a French diplomat, and their own shadowy past.
About the Author
Murray lives with her husband in the college town of Newark, Delaware.
