Preface
"Research: Concepts, Common Sense, and Comprehension" encompasses basic subject matter typically covered in a first course. Discussion begins with a brief history on research origins and selection of a research problem. Other relevant topics follow including review of literature, measurement instruments, sampling methods, forms of hypotheses, types of research--descriptive, experimental (pre, quasi and true), factorial designs, single subject and historical. Writing the report completes the presentation.
"Mental Disorders, Americans with Disabilities Act, Employers and Others" is a concise description of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is followed by a discussion of mental mechanisms and their relationship to neuroses, commonly observed symptoms, primary protective aggressive and withdrawal defenses based on anxiety and generally agreed upon classification of mental disturbances. It concludes with a description of the stress scale, "Normal to the Situation."
This omnibus was written to serve as a "ready review or reference" for employers, students and professionals actively engaged in relevant fields including business, education, sociology, psychology, health care and related. It describes the essential fundamentals of statistics, research and mental disorders. Hopefully, it will assist concerned individuals "learning" as students, "preparing" for examinations, "maintaining" proficiency and "assisting" employers that must sift through gobs of statistics, comprehend research procedures and recognize mental disorder symptoms in employees for referral and/or treatment.

About the Book
This omnibus describes the fundamentals of statistics, research, and mental disorders plus basic requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Measurement scales, distribution forms, central tendency, measures of variability, standard scores, simple linear and multiple correlation, hypotheses, standard errors, tests of significance, analysis of variance, multiple comparison, and chi square are discussed from a meaningful conceptual perspective without resorting to complicated formulae or derivations. Basic elements of research described begin with initial selection of a problem, review of the literature, measurements, sampling, hypotheses, types of research (descriptive, experimental, factorial, single subject, and historical), and report writing. Legal rights of the disabled in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, definitions and classifications of mental disorders, defense mechanisms, diagnostic categories, and a "normal" stress scale are discussed in sufficient detail for use by students and workers in the mental health field. Many interesting, often humorous examples are depicted throughout to liven discussion of various topics and pique the reader’s poetic interest.
About the Author
Robert R. Morman was born in Lansford, PA. He graduated from UCLA and earned Master's and Doctorate degrees in psychology from USC. He retired from CSULA as a full professor with emeritus status. His background in the military consisted of service in the USN as a Chief Yeoman during WWII and as a Major who retired from the USAFR. His vocational experience comprised four decades of experience as a psychological research assistant, pollster, test constructor, counseling psychologist, college test officer, counselor, and professor at CSULA. He also taught part-time as professor for Cal Lutheran University and Walden University. Counseling, personality theory, vocational factors, computer introduction, statistics, research, group tests and measurements, teacher supervision, counselor supervision, independent study, thesis and dissertation were among the college-university subjects taught. He also consulted in related fields. Over 40 technical articles on automation, counseling, statistics, research, and validation of psychological tests were published in various technical journals.
