The Beautiful Way of Life
Beauty can be physical, spiritual, mental ... and sometimes all three.
"The beautiful way of life" is a philosophy, a psychology, a religion, a discipline, a harmony of which are directed to expansion of our individual awareness and finally to fulfillment of our divine potential.
Each article will emphasize the right use of our physical senses, with the expectation that this will lead us to experiences beyond the physical ... into dimensions that may be mysterious and difficult to describe in words, but nevertheless deeply soul-satisfying and real.
Meditation and silence are always expected, since these are highways to soul experiences. Even though our starting point may be the consideration of ordinary things, our objective will be to go beyond the physical object ... to penetrate the object and find the source of its beauty, its form, its very existence!
I will write about experiences that transcend the descriptive power of words. I will ask you to step beyond the symbolism of words into the source of words. Reading between the lines is essential. The words are only starting points for you, the reader, who can become the experiencer.
Always we will be pointing to something greater than the sum of its parts. The implication is that a mysterious wonder is embedded in every particle of the universe, and that our purpose in living is constantly to increase our awareness of the Source of our being,.
I will be writing about how to recognize this awe-inspiring experience. how to set the stage for its discovery, and how to keep on enlarging our view of it. Our search for the beautiful way of life will allow us literally to roam everywhere for methods or techniques. We will share experiences with the great mystics who found their way and have tried to convey its ineffability to us.
Our inquiry will lead us to questions about our state of being, our state of present living, and our state of becoming.
Another of our goals is freedom from bondage. Many of us are locked in by outworn traditions, erroneous educational conditioning, and even by our own fears of the unknown. Each of us needs to discover the wonder of being a unique entity in a universe of entities. Each of us is something special and it is time we claim our birthright and be ourself first, last, and always!
Only by first discovering, the real worth of ourself can we begin to share anything, worthwhile with others. We need to develop natural poise, self-confidence, and strength. Sharing, is an integral part of life and we need to know how to share. Otherwise we can never be fulfilled.
Balance is one word we will talk about frequently ... a dynamic, not a static kind of balance. Balance plus awareness equals love and this, too, will be an important aspect of our search.
Discriminating choice will be given a great deal of attention, because choosing the right incoming stimuli will be of paramount importance. You should ask yourself many times, "What do I really want? Will it build me up or tear me down?" The art of discrimination makes the difference between grossness and fineness, vulgarity and refinement.
We'll travel together and discover the wonders that exist all around us. it will not be an easy trip, because I will expect you to be more than an armchair traveler. I will expect you to strive for your own unfoldment . . . but I can truthfully say that if you sincerely want to enlarge your spiritual awareness and are willing to pay the price, the rewards of "the beautiful way of life" will be beyond your imagination.

About the Author
Charles Lelly has made the search for spiritual awareness and mystical experience his life long journey. Though raised in a traditional Christian family, he found the need to study beyond those religious boundaries. His university education was directed toward science. He earned a B.S. degree in pharmacy. However, as a Registered Pharmacist he again found the boundaries too narrow and after ten years as retail pharmacist, he again sought out new avenues for his basic interest and went to the Unity School of Ministerial Training and became an ordained Unity Minister in 1968. He remained at Unity Headquarters as editor of New Magazine; later rising to an executive position. He began writing a series of essays for Unity Magazine entitled The Beautiful Way of Life. In 1980 Unity published many of these articles as a book. During this time, Lelly sought for and caught glimpses of the great inner power we all possess. In addition to the Unity teachings, He studied other spiritual and mystical teachings, such as Rosicruianism, Self Realization (Yogananda), Zen Buddism, Sufism, Hinduism, Taoism. He was inspired by the writings of Dr. Walter and Lao Russell. In 1978 Lelly moved to Kentucky to become the senior minister of Unity in Louisville. He is now retired, continuing to write. He continues to study any avenue that brings into balance the nature of spirituality and science.
