Sydney slapped her skin roughly with the tissues. The image faded of the foggy bridge, the tavern and Michael Eden---once more she was immediately back on Bara Bey and reality. Surely, he would get over the joke, ignore her some more, and keep his distance. She never told anyone how he invaded her dreams bringing with him a peculiar fantasy. She and Bara were together in Egypt. A wind raged over them, sand blew into their eyes. Love flamed in his eyes, he was about to yell to her when she threw herself against him, crying, begging him, yes begging him, not to say another word. Gusting wind blew the French doors open with a loud bang. She jumped completely out of her seat turning around quickly, peering down the long room into the dark night between the open patio doors. The storm sent wild blowing rain over the threshold into the room. Sydney felt fearful and alarmed at the same time realizing the damage the water was doing to the expensive rug. She forced herself to run down the length of the room as quickly as she could. She grabbed onto one door handle trying to push it into the jamb and lock it. The force of the wind sent her rearing wildly back, the spray blearing her eyes with rain making her unable to see what she was doing. Still, she fought on but to no avail. She could not bring both doors together and shut the rain and wind out. She stood holding both door handles, one in each hand, but could not muster the strength to push both of them shut at the same time. The beautiful green nightgown clung to her body like a second skin, soaked through and through. She was being drenched by the battering rain and wind and somehow couldn’t let go of the door handles. Her satin ribbon drooped in her eyes, her golden hair plastered tight to her face; mouthfuls of water went down her throat making her sputter and cough. She was showered for the second time that night, the first was the nice hot shower she had taken only minutes before that hadn’t left her protesting. A strong arm grabbed her around the waist at the same time clapping a hand over her mouth. Roughly she was shoved unceremoniously back into the room, while the doors miraculously came together and the deluge stopped dead. She backed slowly backwards deeper into the long room wiping her eyes on her hands to clear her vision. At last she had backed all the way down to her vanity table still trying to push her doused hair off her face. She tore the useless ribbon from around her hair and threw it angrily onto the floor and stomped on it. Bara Bey stood in the center of the room soaked to the skin but intent on nothing but her and what she was doing. The transparency of her nightgown and how it clung to her every curve and valley was not lost on him; he was immediately aroused, but for some unknown reason her near nakedness disturbed him. He watched her tear the ribbon from her hair throwing it onto the floor, watched her rub her eyes over and over with her wet hands, watched her back up even tighter to the table behind her when she finally realized she was truly seeing him there in the middle of her bedroom. Then she was shaking, not from the cold rain that slid down from her hair, or the wind that had blown her like a fallen leaf, but from seeing Bara looking at her in a peculiar way. Not only was he wearing riding pants, long brown boots, a shirt opened at the neck, all drenched with water, but he also carried a riding crop in his hand. Breathless from the wind and rain, she was more breathless with the virility he exuded. She had never really understood what a desirable and sensual man he really was.

About the Book
Bara Bey is the thinking man’s "Indiana Jones," but not as lucky. An Egyptian national, he was raised in the small village of Sehti, on the edge of "The Giza," in sight of two of Egypt’s greatest treasures, "The Sphinx," and the ancient pyramid, "The Old Khufu". The time is 1926. Bara Bey and his boyhood friend, Ben Saad, live in London, where Bara makes his living romancing all the women he meets who can do him any good financially. He is a dashing figure, who insists he is the son of a sheik, but others know him for what he really is, a gigolo: a great lover and charlatan. There is only one woman he wants and she detests him. Lady Sydney Heath knows he is a liar and a scoundrel, yet she cannot help being drawn by the handsome sensual Bara into a love-hate relationship that is reaching the boiling point. No one suspects Bara Bey has found a golden box, a golden book and a heavy gold ring with a glowing yellow diamond, all covered in glyphs in a strange unknown language. He discovered the artifacts while digging around the Sphinx as a boy, and has been looking for the person who is preordained to translate the glyphs, which will reveal Bara Bey’s destiny, that may come with a high price and a strange mission. His friend and butler, Ben Saad, has been his protector; he is the only one who really knows Bara is looking for a 25,000 year old civilization called, "Helios." The story opens with Bara’s invitation to Heath Hall from Lady Heath and the knowledge the linguist and archeologist, Professor Hugh Talbot, the helper Bara thinks he has been searching for will be in attendance. Bara Bey is a jolly good romp, filled with romance, adventure and mystery. He is what women dream of and men wish to imitate, but all his considerable charms may not be enough to stand up to the god of Helios, who has been waiting 25,000 years for Bara Bey to discover him.
About the Author
LaVerne Zocco was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and migrated to Florida in 1961. Her writing career commenced when she won a citywide literary prize for her literary abilities while attending Cleveland’s East High School. She went on to edit and publish a monthly newsletter for the employees of the City of North Miami Beach, Florida called, The Hall Way. Her first published work was a compilation of spiritual essays and poetry titled, "Meet me in Vermont." This book is still given out to graduates of social agencies in Miami, Florida, as an inspirational gift. Ms. Zocco’s works always contain a spiritual quality regardless of the genre. Her other novels include: The Blue Nile – An English mystery ala Agatha Christie. The Hotel Timothy – A junior book about an inner-city child who finds a miracle in a seedy hotel. Palmer Hall – A mystery that reflects her expertise in psychology. Inside Drug Treatment – a walk through drug treatment. The Post Office Killed my Husband – a non-fiction indictment of the Asbestos Industry and the government. The Friggin’ Altos – a comedy and spoof of all Mafia based stories. Ms. Zocco holds a master’s degree summa cum laude in counseling psychology from Nova University. She has been employed as an evaluating counselor for eleven years, and has interviewed thousands of clients. She holds a state license as a mental health counselor, and is an ongoing contributor to her professional magazine, Briefings. She lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She has two sons, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She has come to writing late but with a vengeance.
