Have You Been Kissed by an Angel?

I was sitting with my sister in a hospital in Dallas. My sense of despair was so great I couldn’t control my anger.

My sweet, loving sister was dying of brain cancer. She was only 35 years old and a mother of two teenagers. Her life was just beginning. Why was she being subjected to this horrible death?

I didn’t blame God, but I was mad at God. He’d taken both my parents in a short four years-- now this. I watched my sister slip into a mental coma. There were times when she seemed almost normal-- other times she seemed brain dead.

After several weeks of her fading in and out I, felt so desperate. The hospital was Catholic, so I wasn’t surprised to have one of the nun nurses come in to check on my sister.

The room was dimly lit so, when the door opened, a glow appeared around the nurse. Except that, when the door closed, the glow remained.

She told me her name was Sister Ann. She said that I wasn’t to worry because my sister was going to be fine. I felt a huge relief, like a heavy weight had been lifted off of me. I went home shortly after that and slept better than I had in weeks.

The next night after work I went to the hospital as usual to see my sister. Arriving at the nurses’ station I stopped to thank Sister Ann for her kindness and consoling words.

"I really appreciate Sister Ann for stopping by last night. She was very helpful."

"I’m sorry, but there is no Sister Ann here."

"Perhaps she was visiting from another hospital?"

"She has been seen before. You are very fortunate."

Indeed I was very fortunate to meet an angel face to face. I hope to see her again someday under more pleasant conditions. For now-- I’ll be content to know Sister Ann is here to help those who need her.
