Constellations and signs aren’t the same Signs are often misunderstood. Many people assume that constellations of fixed stars and signs are the same. Signs are units of measurement equal to 30
The equator is tilted approximately 23 degrees to the ecliptic. We measure the planets based on where they appear along the ecliptic. Signs are the role the actors play and planets are the actors. The planets get to wear one of the signs. The constellations do cross the ecliptic. The 12 signs of the zodiac were named after constellations. The signs of the zodiac are measured and the constellations have never divided the ecliptic into equal segments. In the Babylonian times, the ancients observed that the planets behaved differently when they were in different signs. It answered many of their mysteries as a way to find the answers. The ancients drew and kept the maps on a daily basis. The fixed stars are stationary. All the stars move together across the sky when the earth rotates. Since the planets move along the ecliptic, the sign then colors how the planets express themselves. This is why the Babylonians were looking at the changes in the sky. When you understand the sun signs, it will enable you to understand yourself better and to know why you act and behave the way you do. I also tell my students that they will better understand their families, friends, co-workers, people in general. I became less critical when I understood the nature of the signs. Major aspects The nature of the planet and the quality of its aspects will determine the benefits or difficulties one will experience in regard to that planet. Good aspects (angles) represent cooperation between one planet and another. Difficult aspects (angles) represent conflict between one planet and another. A difficult aspect usually indicates "too much" or "not enough’’ of the positive quality. Conjuncts Positive or difficult, depending on the planets, signs and houses involved. Unification, emphasis, dynamic power, intensification, new beginnings. Trines These are positive aspects. You do not have to do anything. They give pleasure. Positive. Luck, reward, creativity, wisdom, vision. May be lazy, lack drive, spoiled, will not exert self. Sextiles Positive aspects. You will be required to do something in return. They may be a better aspect than a trine. They give opportunity, enrichment, curiosity, resourcefulness, contacts. Opportunities come as a result of taking an action. Oppositions Difficult. Tension, confrontation, ambivalence, competition. Can be turned into balance, objectivity, fulfillment, partnership. Squares Difficult. Frustrations, disappointments, sense of futility, fear, stress, friction. Can be turned into productive action, drive, actualization of purpose.

Astrology is not fortunetelling, but it can be extremely predictive when used correctly. Astrology is a tool; it’s understanding the movement of the planets when they enter a sign.
When you understand sun signs, it allows you to understand yourself better and to know why you act and behave the way you do. I tell my students that they will better understand their families, friends, co-workers, people in general. I became less critical when I understood the nature of the signs.
I wrote The Fundamentals of Astrology because when I started studying astrology I could not find a beginner’s book that could answer many of my questions. The book is for people who know little or nothing about astrology. It’s loaded with graphics. I have not seen a book with the illustrations this book has. They bring a point home in a way that text cannot. The president of my astrological society said the book is great – covers everything and more for beginners. Even professional astrologers tell me my book will be a help to them.
Recently, a member of my astrology group said, "Peggy, I never understood what an intercepted sign was until I saw the graphic illustration in your book." I said, "Many people do not unless they read a book on interceptions." The reply was, "I never found the book."

About the Author
Peggy Allison is an astrologer, lecturer, writer and teacher. She is a member of the Organization of Professional Astrologers and the Magi Society and is a member of the board of the Astrological Society of Kentucky. She has studied under some of the most knowledgeable people in astrology, including Dale O’Brien, Buz Myers, Bob Mulligan, Helen Garrett, Kitty Hatcher, and Jeff Baugher. She continues her education at astrological conferences throughout the United States. Her unique teaching style puts astrology in everyday perspectives that her students can easily understand, and she uses the same methods in her book.
