Why

In the next era of their existence, in the agricultural era, human beings – generally – did not have enough food, did not have equality, did not have democracy, did not have sexual freedom – and they developed war, which dominated their existence. Their religion changed but it still made them misunderstand themselves and their world – and, even more than before, made them worse off.

The present era, the modern era, started off like the agricultural era. But, in a relatively short period, it had already made possible for many human beings an abundance of food, democracy (but not equality), sexual freedom, and less war, or even no war. And, further, religion has been weakened enough so that it causes much less misunderstanding – and does much less to make human beings worse off. And there is a real prospect that these conditions will become the conditions under which the whole human species will live. There is a real prospect that an approximation of utopia will come to exist.
