It was a beautiful day out on the pond, and everyone was playing hard. Reedy Duck was the fastest swimmer in the family and he raced up and down the pond ignoring his mother’s warnings. Each time Reedy would go just a little farther toward the river. This time, however, was different. Reedy turned to come back and was swimming as hard as he could when he noticed that not only wasn’t he moving, but that he was actually going backward! A terrible chill passed through his body as he realized he’d gone too far and was caught by the river’s current! "Help! Help! Somebody please help me!" Reedy yelled frantically, but the roar of the river had drowned out his voice as he floated out of sight! Soon Reedy Duck was going faster and faster, much faster than his little legs had ever gone before! He was being thrown up and down, and try as he might, he could do nothing! Tired, afraid, and out of control, Reedy feared the worst as the river sped him toward a large rock. Realizing all was lost, he closed his eyes and thought of his family back on the pond. "If only I had listened to mother," he thought. But the rock never came! Instead, Reedy felt a firm grip close around his entire body. He opened his eyes only to find that he was in the mouth of a very large fish! He closed his eyes again, only this time he was waiting to be swallowed.

About the Book
Caught in a raging river and being pulled farther from his home and family Reedy Duck sees a large rock in front of him and he’s headed right for it! Fearing the end Reedy closes his eyes. He thinks about being home and realizes that if only he had listened to his mother he would still be safe and sound playing with his brothers and sisters. But the rock never comes and suddenly he feels a firm grip tighten down all around him! Slowly opening his eyes he sees that his new fate is worse than the rock. He is in the mouth of the largest fish he has ever seen! Reedy Duck’s Big Adventure is a story about a young duck that ignores the wisdom of his mother’s experience and it nearly costs him everything, twice! A kind and generous deed performed by his mother years before Reedy was born however, saves and changes his life forever!
About the Author
Mr. Steckel is a high school teacher and coach residing in Boise, Idaho. The inspiration for Reedy Duck’s Big Adventure came about by many nights of reading bedtime stories to his three children. After every story had been read, at least a couple dozen times, his son asked if he new of any good stories that hadn’t been told. And so the Big Adventure was born!
