Perspective

I always thought I had a healthy perspective.
I love my husband and children
unequivocally.
I am grateful for the family who raised me and
the friends who support me.
I thank God daily for the blessings in my life
down to the breath I draw in, the glorious blue sky,
and the relief of the crisp autumn air.
I have a job in which I help support the tiniest of babies,
making the true miracle of life strikingly evident
on a daily basis.
I always thought I had perspective.
On September 11, 2001 perspective was forever redefined.
The concepts of family, life, love, unity, fortitude, freedom, grief, empathy,
safety, leadership, heroism and patriotism
were reborn.
They will proceed in a new light,
a light we will forever carry--
a light so bright
it may be seen from the heavens.

I longed to be your mother
before there was even a glimmer of you.
Now here you are
fitting perfectly into my soul
in a place surely of God’s design.
Not a day passes
that I don’t thank Him
for the sweet privilege
of being your mother.
