David Ransom fell to the bedroom floor, conscious but bleeding. He dragged himself across the room until he reached the table beside the bed and tugged on the telephone wire. The phone fell to the floor with a discordant jangle. He was nauseous and bleary-eyed but managed to crook his finger over the wire and pull the phone toward him. He clutched the receiver, trying to bring it into focus. He fumbled with the phone base and with a determined effort punched 9-1-1. He waited, breathing heavily, fighting the weakness that was overtaking him. "9-1-1. May I – " began the operator, but he interrupted her. "I’ve been shot! I’m at 3691 Silver Lace Lane. My name is David Ransom. Help me – " he said, and sank into darkness.

Don E. About the Author
Don E. Finegold, after nearly fifty years as an
executive and Tanner in the New England Leather Industry, retired and began a
new career that he has long awaited--writing novels. A 1948 graduate of The
Oxford School of Business Administration, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a 1953
graduate of Lowell Technological Institute, Lowell, Massachusetts, Mr.
Finegold, in his second novel, enters into his favorite realm, the mystery. He
and his wife, Elaine, reside in Salem, Massachusetts, Conway, New Hampshire, and
Boynton Beach, Florida.
