About the Book

Don E. Finegold's mystery novel, Interlude, is a story of a family of consequence who, after decades of frequent nefarious dealings, have created a hierarchy now led by a woman that considers herself beyond reproach. When her daughter is wooed and captivated by a suitor the mother dislikes, problems are certain to occur.

A shot rings out in his darkened bedroom, and David Ransom falls to the floor, gravely wounded. The intruder steps over the fallen figure and flees.

Was the intruder a nervous thief surprised in a robbery attempt, or was it an attempted murder by a wronged partner, an ambitious protege, a deceived wife, an unscrupulous mother-in-law, a quashed business competitor – or a disgruntled mistress?

David Ransom's rise to wealth and power began with his marriage to Dora Payson, a marriage not condoned by the wealthy Payson family. In the ensuing years, Ransom fought his way to success, using any and every means to gain his ends. He could be ruthless, he could be charismatic, he could be charming – whatever the situation required. His lifestyle made him enemies – too many enemies – and it was up to Detective-Lieutenant Al Murray to determine why he was attacked – and by whom. Murray pursues this investigation as he does all his investigations – with determination fueled by inner anger and jealously. His lengthy list of suspects all have strong motives to seek the ruination of David Ransom, and what Murray uncovers as he delves into their lives is an insight into the minds of people seemingly never satisfied with their way of life. The ending could surprise you!
