Just as she sat down on the big Pullman suitcase and opened her magazine, lightning flashed across the sky. The wind picked up, so Gabrielle grabbed at her hat and pulled it more snugly on her head and put her magazine away. "Terr-ri-fic," she muttered, looking at her watch again, "what else can go wrong?" As if on cue, the sky opened up and rain poured down like sprinklers turning on full force. "Oh no!" Gabrielle sighed as she dropped her head in surrender to Mother Nature. She was still looking down so she did the next logical thing that a twenty-four year old woman does in this predicament; she started to cry. She knew it was immature and she really did try to fight back the tears but she was tired and beginning to feel very abandoned. Her head was down; her eyes welled up with tears so she did not see the off-white Excalibur Limousine pull up to the curb. She did not see the well-dressed man in the white dinner jacket get out with umbrella in hand and rush over to her. She did not really notice that the rain that had been falling so diligently on her hat was now silent. But when she heard the sonorous voice that could stop time - speak, Gabrielle thought she would faint. "May I be of assistance?" said a voice every bit as deep as Barry White’s. Oh please, she thought, please, don’t let him be tall, dark and fine. Before she looked up, she shut her eyes trying to convince herself that he was not everything she’d just imagined.
If she thought she was going to faint just hearing his voice, Gabrielle was sure she would buckle now. She opened her eyes as she raised her head and blinked in amazement. He was tall, even though she was sitting down, she knew he was tall. Since Gabrielle was five-eight, she guessed he had to be six-foot, maybe even six-two. He was well built with broad shoulders. He had close-cropped hair, cocoa-brown skin, a well-trimmed mustache and deep brown eyes to die for! He was no Denzel Washington, a popular actor of this day. He was more like the young Richard Roundtree. Gabrielle loved Richard Roundtree! From the first time her mother had rented the movie "Shaft" on videotape, Gabrielle had a huge crush. She watched the tape so many times, her mother teased her until she finally broke down and purchased the video for herself. Yet, this man standing before her even gave her favorite actor competition! She swallowed, trying to find her voice. Oh great, she thought, and me looking like Raggedy Andy’s sister!

About the Author
"EBONIA"– for some a pseudonym might seem passe but RuNett Nia Ebo likes using it because writing fiction takes her into another "zone" far away from the normal. Until recently, Nia has only been known for her poetry and titles like Dish-Rag Love, We Be A Nation and the infamous Lord, Why Did You Make Me Black? were her main sources of notoriety. Although this is her first fiction romance, she is already working on the second. Miss Ebo loves seasonal employment. She works as a tax consultant in the winter, creative writing instructor in the summer and an outreach worker, motivational speaker and public relations coordinator the rest of the year. She is a very busy community activist in Philadelphia where she lives close to her five sons and four grandchildren.
