Another year had gone by, and the girls were just starting to feel the wrath of their mother again. She seems to have gone out of her way to make the girls' life a living hell. Once, Jollena was still hungry after eating dinner that consisted of small portions of food, that only a two-year-old could get full off of. She asked for some more to eat from her mother who, didn't seem to want to get her any more. Well, Jollena thought she had better ask again, only with a little tears on the side. This little jester made the mother very upset, and all of Jollena's world came tumbling down on her. Her father came into the dining room and began to argue with the mother. "Why don't you give that girl some more to eat if she wants some?" "She already had her food." Said the mother, with such hatred in her voice. This fight lasted for some time before he had to leave for his job as a DJ. Two minutes after he drove off in the car, the mother grabbed Jollena and started beating the living daylights out of her. After severe damage was done to Jollena's back and legs, the mother had one more surprise for the girl. "Since you want to cry about food, I'm going to see to it that you get enough to eat." With that, she went into the kitchen and got the largest cooking spoon she could find. She came back into the dining room and handed the spoon and a large bowl of beans to Jollena. She then dragged the girl by her long hair and made her stand by the table, and told her to dance like an Indian around the table, while putting the spoon of food to her mouth and repeating the words "UM-UM Good." This humiliation, along with the other sisters laughing at her, only made her want to take the darn spoon and choke herself to death, so that she would be free from the abuse that she suffered, at the hands of the woman who is supposed to protect her. Jollena didn't know too many words, as far as their meaning is concerned but, she had a feeling that humiliation meant, "Those traveling the highway of humility won't be bothered by any heavy traffic." No matter how bad she felt doing this stupid thing, it always came as a shock to find out that her own mother didn't love her.

About the Book
Tanya, Ivana, and Jollena , had gone though a lot at home where they lived. They were the target of an abusive woman who thought she was doing a good job of making sure the three of them stayed in line. Someone in that house had beat, pushed, and verbally abused the three of them. As far as the state was concerned, they didn’t take too kindly to seeing children being hurt and the person getting away with it. So the officials made a vow to protect the girls and it suddenly became a priority. Mrs. Rayner had gone crazy over the years. She almost shot two police officers as they tried to get her out of the clothes closet, where she had been hiding. She was finally going to be put away for what she had done.

Jeanette Williams lives in a beautiful home in St. Louis, Missouri, where she spends a lot of time writing and enjoying being with her husband and two children. She is a member of the International Women’s Writing Guild. She is currently working on her second novel.
