When I chose the title of this book to be Of the Holy Spirit, my hope was that it would conjure up for Christians the sign of the cross and the words that go with it: "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
We make the sign of the cross many times in church on Sundays and sometimes even at the ballpark. There we make it praying for a hit. In church, we make it nowadays not to get hit. We live in an age of nuclear terrorism. Almost every day in this great country there is a new message from the F.B.I. putting us on high alert for some anticipated act of terrorism. Pundits say it is no longer a question of if we will get hit, only a question of when and where. It appears to us that it may come from some far off country by missile or from the bowels of a ship sitting in one of our harbors; perhaps, even from a suitcase in the back of a SUV. In such circumstances, we might rightfully ask ourselves whether we are ready to die in a moment of blinding light and concussion. First the blistering light, then the crushing concussion. In moments of tension like this, we ask if we are ready to meet our Maker. For some the question may be: is there a Maker to be met? We turn to our faith for comfort and forgiveness. We make the sign of the cross: "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". We know of the Father from what Christ, his Son, taught us: "Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father We know the Son from what Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul wrote in the sacred scriptures. But who is this Holy Spirit? The Paraclete? O Parakletos? In church we sing the glorious words of Handel’s Messiah: "An his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, The prince of Peace". Who is this Counselor? This Advocate? This Paracletos? This little book is written to give, perhaps, some additional insight into this mysterious Person. Much of it is drawn from the Scriptures that He Himself inspired to be written. This is the Revelation sent to us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
And then we shall be satisfied’.
Jesus said to him,
‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip,
And you still do not know me?
‘Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.’ "

This is the Revelation sent to us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Here is Christianity; it is yours for free. "Let all that are thirsty come:
Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father,
The prince of Peace".
All who want it may have the water of life,
And have it free."

About the Author
Wallace S. Jungers is a graduate from Woodstock College in theology. With other degrees in philosophy and chemistry, Mr. Jungers taught in high school at St. Joe’s Prep in Philadelphia and chemistry at Loyola College in Baltimore. In this work, he continues his research of early Christianity that began with his books, called Jesus Christ in Glory, and St. Paul, St. John and St. Augustine, Reflections on Christ in Glory and Prayers of Early Christianity. From the viewpoint of a modern Christian, Mr. Jungers explains the New Testament scriptures to believers who are searching for a better understanding of "the honest story of Jesus Christ". Well versed in Greek and Latin, he brings the Greek documents of Paul, the Apostle, and John the Evangelist to American readers. Mr. Jungers lives in Chicago with his wife, Sue, who is Principal of Mount Carmel Academy. He has two married daughters, Jane and Jennifer.
