The zone car in the area got the call from the radio at 1:35 p.m. The call came over, "Car 211, missing three year-old female at 4800 Franklin Avenue, Apartment #1." The uniformed men in Car 211 got there at one forty-five p.m. Marylou came running out into the street screaming that her daughter was missing. The street was full of people by now, all trying to talk to the police. The police got Marylou back into the apartment and tried to get information from her. Marylou was hysterical, and the police tried to calm her down. Not succeeding, they questioned Patty. Patty told them the story about getting lunch ready and not being able to find Noreen. While Patty had been calling the police, Marylou had been running up and down the street screaming for Noreen. The police wanted a description from Marylou, but they had to get it from Patty. Patty told the police Noreen was three years old, white female, blonde hair, blue eyes, about three feet tall. She was wearing a pink short-sleeve blouse, blue jeans, and tennis shoes with red socks. The police immediately got the description on the radio and called for a supervisor to meet them at the apartment. Lieutenant Smith of the Second District met the patrolmen at the apartment and told them to call the detectives right away. The Lieutenant also told the officers to say on the scene until the detectives arrived. The Lieutenant got into his car to check around the neighborhood. A team of detectives arrived at the scene at about three-fifteen p.m. Detectives Don Fox and Dick Bender talked to the Zone car men, but were unable to take to Marylou because she was hysterical. The detectives called the policewomen and had them take Marylou to the hospital. The detectives told the zone car men to search the neighborhood while the detectives interviewed some of the people on the scene. The patrol car returned about an hour later and reported that they could not find any trace of the little girl. The detectives had gathered as much information as was possible from Patty and the neighbors, and had decided that this was very possibly a kidnapping. It was time to call in their supervisor and let him decide what course of action to take.

About the Author
Earl S Kratzer was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and became a member of the Cleveland Police Department in 1962. He worked in almost every district in the city, as well as the Mounted Unit, Juvenile Unit, liaison man with city hall and finally as a detective sergeant in the Detective Bureau. He worked closely with the detectives on many cases – some large, some small, but all interesting. Earl S Kratzer currently resides in Stuart, Florida with his wife, Michele, who is a retired Captain from the Cleveland Police Department. He is the father of three daughters who also reside in Florida.
