Samuel threw down the phone with outrage and disgust! "Dam It! Doesn’t she know who I am?" He walked around the Computer Lab pacing like a wild tiger in its homemade cage. Impatience with bouts of anger, infuriated and disbelief. Samuel had just received a call by his Uncle, his Grandmother was dead. His Uncle said something about the Military Base buying up the land a year or so ago. And in practicing maneuvers fired a missile that ended in his grandmother’s life while in her garden house where she’d spend at her late, fall of years, time making sure her rhododendrons and magnolias would make the transition from the many years they had grown them in their twenty-five acre property. "But why wasn’t Josh calling me back?!" Samuel muttered to himself. Samuel in dismay, cried like a baby while his tears were still moist, he continued making calls to his needed partner, Josh. Within him he thought, Josh would be able to resolve his pain; he’d certainly help find out how this would have occurred to his Grandmother and specially; while she was still living there. "Damn it!" As he heard the message machine click into message mode. It was late maybe he’s gone for the day, he thought. The following day Samuel spoke to Josh which lead them to meet in Washington, where Samuel for sure would get a legitimate answer and maybe see some retribution for what had happen to his grandma. As always Samuel and Josh met and embraced, as Josh spoke solemnly about the tragedy and the loss of his family member. Samuel sat slump and intoxicated from the couple of whisky-sours he’d had the previous nights and air flight, trying to surmise how this would have happen. Its’ not that Samuels family had not been participatory in the rich history of county or that of the United States? His Grand Father had served with the Cavalry in the big one, which was what WWI had been remembered by, and his father also had served this country by going which today everyone knows it was an obligatory drafted. But regardless, they had served this country well. Why would the Military do this?

About the Author
Pablo Marquez, grew up in various places around the world. As a child his activities included hiking, swimming, biking, football, baseball, basketball, reading and guitar playing. He attended Pedro A. Campos High School and Friends University. He has worked primarily in the logistics field and has traveled extensively to various countries to implement Materials and Purchasing departments and speaks fluent Spanish and English along with conversational German. Married to Iris Marquez and having three wonderful children, he emphasizes reading and creative thinking to them. He has authored several Novels among them children’s novels as; Benito’s Treasure Hunt, and Flight To The Mountain Top, written as a remembrance to his various childhood experiences while growing up and in sharing them with his children. Recently, he has published two other novel’s, Costume, Guided Instrument, and Cruise‘In, these directed to a more adult audience as he narrates how life’s defunct characters can turn certain incidences into real life positive satisfaction with the help of friends.
