Where is Tomorrow?

Vincent said, “Look what I found.” He found a sign that had “Welcome to Denver” on it. This must have been the great city of Denver before the asteroid hit Earth. Vincent lazily dropped the sign before continuing his search. Butch came running back to me with a few bottles in his hands.

“I found these bottles of liquor in some old wooden crates back there,” he said. I told him to keep looking for anything useful or helpful. That was right after he put the bottles in his pack. I really didn't find anything there that we could use.

Vincent spoke up and said, “Isn’t it funny how we haven’t came across a single corpse of a human being, or a sign of possible survivors.” It was at that time when we decided to move on. Jimmy was the only one not back to the group.

Butch, Tom, Vincent, and I were yelling, “Jimmy! Where are you? Jimmy! Can you hear us?”

It was at that time we knew something was wrong. We all stayed close together to search, call out, and find Jimmy. We were frantically yelling and running through what was left of this city. He was my good friend, and I wasn't about to let something bad happen to him.

Out of the corner of Tom’s eye, he yelled, “Over here.” We all came rushing up to find Jimmy standing as white as a ghost, stiff as a corpse, and scared as a child. He must have seen something in this old building that was barely standing. He was staring right through a window.

Butch went up to him and said, “Wake up Jimmy. Wake up Jimmy.” We all went up to calm Butch down and to comfort Jimmy. He must had seen something that nearly put him into shock. After a few minutes of rest, we got him to talk to us on what he saw.

He slowly said, “I… I saw eyes.”

Tom interrupted by saying, “It was probably an animal, or your imagination.”

Jimmy said, “They glowed. It wasn’t quite human or animal.”

I said, “Are you sure?”

Jimmy then looked at all of us in a certain way that made us believe that he was telling the truth.

After this incident, Vincent advised everyone to have their guns ready and be alert. I said, “Tom, Butch, come with me in this building.” We were going to find out what just put Jimmy in shock.

We entered with our guns in our hands as we were watching each others backs. I searched around the first corner and nothing was there. We found nothing here except broken objects and dust. Night was approaching during all of the excitement that was going on. Jimmy requested that we get out of this place to set up camp somewhere else. We all agreed. Butch scouted out a good area in which to camp. Realizing we had to report back that following day, we all quickly fell asleep.

Morning came and we were off.

Vincent said, “Don’t forget anything now, for we will not be back.” All I did was wonder how well the other groups of men were doing. It was 4:00 p.m., and we had all made it back. My group was tired and exhausted from the long trip back. Wilson and his group made it back just before we arrived.

Vincent said, “Did your group of men find or come across anything at all?”

Wilson said, “No. One of my men was nearly killed by loose, falling boulders while we were making our way around a mountain.”

Tom spoke up and said, “We had a few mishaps. Jimmy was nearly killed after he made a wrong step on the side of a mountain.”

After an hour of discussion, two more groups were approaching to report back to camp. We went over there to ask them for any information or news. They had the same response as everyone else. We did not tell the other groups about what happened with Jimmy and his occurrence of sudden fright. I didn't think it was necessary. They probably would not have believed us. Everyone was now getting settled in for the night and getting ready to discuss the next search expedition.

Everyone noticed that one group did not show up. No one thought much of it.

Tom ran over and said, “Why don’t you come over here and have a little liquor with us.”

I said, “Why not? We might as well have a little enjoyment while we are stuck in this current situation.”

While Jimmy was settling down in his bed, Butch was busy stuffing his face full of the canned goods that we managed to save.

It had been three weeks and we still hadn’t made another attempt to adventure out. There was no sign of the other group of men from the expedition. We still didn’t know why they had not returned. I was very anxious to go and learn what was happening.

Vincent called a meeting together for the next morning. “The men from the same groups will go out early tomorrow morning and explore once again,” he said.

David spoke up and said, “How long is this one going to last?”
