The Stock Market
The way the market is up and down,
I will be the brokest man in this town.
I retired for a life of ease.
If this keeps up, I will be on my knees.
One day I have money abound.
The next there is none to be found.
Called all my friends for a loan.
They wouldn't even come to the phone.
If you have money today,
Don't put it in the market.
You will just see it slip away.
Too old to go back to work that is a fact.
Don't want to sit here crying like a sad sack.
So if you have money, let that market be.
You could wind up broke and a poor man like me.
It was a great run while it did last.
Wish I could start again
And make it all back twice as fast.
I know that won't be because I didn't win
And I don't have time to play around again.
Try for All of Us
I thought you understood our trust,
That we put your welfare first.
Wanted you to come back to stay.
Now you are trying to throw it all away.
I know it isn't easy to live with all the hurt,
But you must learn in God to trust.
We will do all we can,
But you must make a stand.
Life isn't easy, I understand
But you must learn to fight every way you can.
Those that love you will be hurt the most.
Others won't care that you are gone.
They will just keep going right along.
You can get all the help if you would just ask.
And try not to live in the past.
All the hurt you had in the past
Can be dealt with at last.
You can deal with this and enjoy life
But not if you end it in strife.
Life is great. Don't throw it away.
Fight hard and live another day.
I hope to hear you say
I want to live another day.
One day at a time is all we can do.
A life of roses wasn't promised to me and you.
Now I have written all this down,
Let the old man help you come around.

About the Book
My writings are from life experiences. "Try For All of Us" was written for a young woman friend who touched my heart. "The Walk" is about enjoying life here on earth. "Reach Out" is related to my personal experience with alcohol. Mainly day-to-day living and enjoying life, and seeing things in my travels bring on poems, some things funny, some touching. Share these thoughts with others and hope the poems would be of inspiration to others. We need to take part in life rather than just merely existing. Life is for the living and we need to get all we can from it each day. We can go through life with our eyes closed or open them and live to the fullest. In my writings, you will find religion, happiness, sadness, humor, and love. That is what life is about.
About the Author
James H. Hogan began writing his first poem in 1977 but it was not completed until 1986. His second poem was written in 1996, but wrote nothing further until 2001. He likes to spend time writing each day. Had worked at various occupations with the most recent being in building maintenance at a mortuary/crematory, until retiring in 2000. The last job was an eye opener of life and death, inspiring him to live each day to the fullest. While traveling with his wife, he enjoys meeting other people, and learning about the lives of people in different areas and cultures. He and his wife retired to Canon City, Colorado where they now reside with their cat, Miss Kitty.
