About the Book

These are true stories. I was born in Amsterdam before World War II. My father had lost his right arm when he was 17 years old. My mother married him against her father's advice and since you needed parental permission until the age of 25, I was conceived prior to their marriage.

I was a mean child. At least that is what they said. But I did fight and work hard for what I thought was right and fair. They also said that I was "my Dad's right arm" because I was allowed to help him with everything.

I want you to know that during the war and thereafter I was never hungry, was always clothed, and was a content and happy child most of the time.

I don't want you to feel sorry for me, but teach your children right from wrong, that people should be allowed different opinions, and that they don't have to agree with everything they are told.

About the Author

Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, I immigrated to the USA in 1957.

Having started in a teachers College in Amsterdam I became a teacher here.

After teaching in my home for a few years I opened a Montessori School in Portland Oregon.

Since there were no Kindergartens in that city in those days I felt my own children needed the preparation for gradeschool and many others benefited from that as a result. Of course after a television production called 'Community Workshop" the entire city became interested. I had so much fun teaching the kids, than other teachers, that my life became the social opposite of my childhood.

I still teach privately today. Tutoring children from preschool to law students in College.

My straight forward approach to writing will make my next book very interesting also.

It will deal with culture differences and a realistic way of dealing with its process.
