She turned, picked up her wine glass and took a sip. Then she leaned forward and kissed him, the red wine passing from her mouth to his. "That is me into you," she whispered. Emotions make people reckless, and we must compensate. It might be better if you stopped your work. We should concentrate instead on getting you and Katyusha safely out." "No! I want to bring more out than me and Katyusha. I want to have both the independence and the security of the money I'm earning. Besides Keith, they would be upset with you if I should suddenly stop." He drew endless designs on her smooth stomach with his finger and stared into the gloom. She was right, especially where the center was concerned. It would probably mean the end of his career. At the very least they would insist on sending another case officer down to try pressuring her. They wanted the information and damn all else! "Yes, you're right, but you must reduce the risk factor. Beware of being baited. Be extremely suspicious of intriguing documents, which suddenly appear out of the ordinary. They just might represent an entrapment effort. "Yes, I will do as you say, my spy master." She kissed him softly on the cheek. He reached over and picked up his watch from the bed table. The luminous hands pointed to 10 o'clock. Christ, how the time slipped away. She could not stay much longer.

About the Author
This is the second novel by the author of 5 GTC (an authorization code). It differs from his first work in two important aspects. 5 GTC is an exciting, fast paced adventure-espionage mystery story. A Defector in Place, based on an actual case, is also a sensitive love story unfolding against the backdrop of bloody aggressive guerilla operations. Kenneth Tolliver’s background includes living in Mexico, and an encounter with Fidel Castro, who implemented a program to export the Cuban revolution throughout Latin America. Part of his early "career" was as a journalist in Mississippi. He was also the associate editor of the Delta Review magazine. Later he served on the personal staff of Senator James O. Eastland, President Pro-Tem of the U S Senate, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and significantly, chairman of the Senate Sub-committee on Internal Security. As a legislative assistant, Tolliver traveled extensively to many countries. In 1975, Time Magazine surmised correctly that he was also working in the intelligence community. He was featured on the NBC hour-long TV documentary Spies Among Us.
