About the Book

Susan is a forty-one year old Bostonian lesbian. Mae is a thirty-six year old cowgirl with strong family ties. Their first meeting takes place on a desolate country road and is an hilarious event. Their first date is even more unique. During the course of the next few months they continue seeing each other. As Susan meets and gets to know Mae’s friends, she is forced to question some of her oldest and most sacred beliefs about how families, friendships and relationships should work.

Along the way, Susan is introduced (not always subtly) to a truly Texas style of life. She experiences passionate sex, Super Bowl fever, poker nights, front porch magic under the moonlight, cigars, guns, a secret midnight rendezvous and many other Texas traditions as they are lived out through the eyes and hearts of Texas lesbians.

Mae, a real cowgirl, begins to learn to trust love again, something she never thought would happen to her. But times are not always happy, as together Mae and Susan must find middle ground when confronted with issues concerning drugs, guns, domestic violence and a death that shakes Mae to the bone.
