About the Book

On any given day one might pick up a newspaper in the United States and find an article relating to the physical and sexual abuse of our children. This is more commonplace, than many Americans will care to admit.

Rather than a clinical dissertation on child neglect and abuse, Ms. Thomas tells her story in a simple manner. Many of the readers will find themselves identifying with the nine-year old girl in the title as she struggles with the tragedies that have befallen her.

The author lived through nine years of physical and sexual abuse. Her siblings and herself were starved, beaten and used sexually by a demented father. Her story chronicles this nightmare, culminating in the removal of the children from the hell that was their home. One would think that this is where the story ends, with a wrong righted. Now came the years with another identity, the heartbreak of lost brothers and sister and the agonies incurred in the foster home system until adopted by the parents she lovingly calls her Mom and Dad.

The author views her life as filled with triumph and conquest. You will not find any self-pity for the tragedies of her youth.
