About the Book
Maxi Luba, owner of a small travel agency, has
booked her clientele all over world. She’s as comfortable with the
eccentricities of others as she is describing the view of the Ile la Cite on
the Seine River in Paris, walking down the Champ Elysees, or climbing the Mayan
ruins in Chichen Itza. Besides being a pliable factotum, she’s a little bit
physic and more than a little perplexed at the strange and untimely
disappearance of a young teenage girl from her neighborhood. Maxi adversely
begins experiencing deep and foreboding dreams that consume and drag her
despairing into the horrow involving this waiflike child of the punk culture ... purple
haired Jennifer.
To compound Maxi’s uneasy feelings and premonitions
is the revelation of the questionable entanglement between Jennifer and Cole
Kennerson, the 27 year old son of Maxi’s boyfriend, Rick.
As the story enfolds, we are pierced by the
indellible wounds that are sometimes left smoldering in the children of bitter
divorce, the lies and delusions that shred and fragment the intimate
relationship between a man and woman, and the deeping, forever, bond and
interaction between a free-spirited mother and her ingenuous, sometimes gnomic
daughter. The story challenges us with an ambling question. Do we really know the
people we love, or merely conjure up a comfortable facsimilie with our own
uncertain and fragile vulnerability.
