About the Book

Applegate Autumn, by award-winning author, and Professor of English and Film, Dr. William Goldhurst, recounts the autobiography of a young boy growing up in New Jersey in the 1930’s. It highlights his search for his famous father, writer, Harry Golden, author of 21 New York Times best-sellers, his fascination with the great Indian tribes and renowned Chieftons of the region, as well as many historic New Jersey landmarks: the Jersey Shore, the Boardwalk, Asbury Park, and many other memorable scenes set in a long-lost New Jersey of the past. This lyrical, coming of age tale, told in voice-over narrative style, reads like a dramatic film as it takes the reader back to a simpler age, magically evoking a long ago, but never to be forgotten autumn in the life of the author, and the life of a nation, both experiencing growing pains together. As seen through the eyes of a precocious ten year old boy, desperately searching for his own identity and the love of his elusive father, Applegate Autumn is destined to become a literary classic, for it reminds us of the universal wonder of growing up, the bitter-sweet innocence of first love, the grief and loneliness of loss and longing, and the timeless beauty and grace - of an all too precious instant in time - our vanished youth.
