'The Play'

[Father Demetre is sitting
in a make shift courtroom in Arlington, Virginia waiting for the council to
convene. He could not believe the
events that had occurred and were now about to continue. His thoughts were searching his past for the
wisdom of confidence to support the moments ahead. He reflects:]
Father Demetre. – I have always been a
doubter and a follower. When I was a
boy, I was often saddled with fear, fear of the unknown, just as I am now, but
back then I always had Rupert. Rupert
Risk, ahh yes, my childhood friend, my rock.
He was not like me, but was always there to help. We were so different; maybe that was the
attraction. He exhumed the confidence I had lacked. I felt strong when he was around. Oh yes, Rupert, where are you
now? When I was 22 years old and decided to enter the ministry, I was sure I
would fail. It was Rupert's calls of
constant encouragement that helped me become minister of my own church, where I
have preached for the past 25 years.
Even in my faith, I continued to doubt. I have preached without the
voice of conviction all my life.
Whenever I felt lost and about to give up, the phone would ring and
Rupert would be on the other end, to lift my spirits. His strength and courage always seemed to be there when I needed it
most. 10 years ago, when my mother
passed away and I could not reach him, he showed up at the funeral. I always
considered him to be instinctively by my side, in times of need. Oh, Rupert,
where are you now?
[The scene shifts to Rupert
Risk, freelance archeologist and adventurist, currently employed by wealthy
industrialist, J. D. Wells. J. D. has a
personal passion, to which he has recently applied much of his wealth, in the
exploration of bible truth and history, through archeology and science. Now J. D., being a man of vast resources and
influence, was also exploring another amazing field. He also had in his employ,
one Dr. Millard Fried, a forensic specialist and expert in the field of
cloning. His research in the field of DNA and cloning were directly
responsible for recent successful cloning experiments on laboratory animals.]
[The phone awakens Rupert at
6:00 am. It's J. D. and withseriousness
in his voice, he says:]
J. D.. – It's very important that you be in my
office at 10:00 am this morning.
Rupert. – What's up?
J. D.. – I'll explain when you get here. And Rupert, pack your bags. Bring plenty of warm cloths.
[10:00 am sharp, a knock at
J. D.'s door.]
J. D.. – Come in Rupert. Your promptness is almost frightening. Have a seat. There are several
things I would like to talk to you about. First of all, I have never revealed
to you, the contents of the scroll that you uncovered in that ancient dumpsite
outside Damascus in 92'. I intend to do
that now, so that you will fully understand the importance and implications of
the expedition that I now want you to undertake.
Rupert. – I'm all ears J. D., and good morning to
you, too!
[J. D. looks down and begins
to read from his copy of the scroll.]
J. D.. – This is a letter to Timothy, my dearest and
possibly only friend. I am writing this letter in haste and must keep it short,
for I fear for my life. Peter is now in
Rome, trying to convince church followers here, of my lack of loyalty to Jesus. He accuses me of preaching untruths and
misleading church followers. He says that I am using the death of Jesus and
stories of his death and resurrection to establish a gentile Christian
faith. He also accuses me of misusing
money collected in Corinth for my own personal use. Some of the church followers have threatened my life. I am
fearful and am beginning to doubt myself. I feel I must leave Rome, if I am to
live another year. I would like to see you as soon as possible. I will be in
exile in the mountain city of Califi where we can meet in the fall. Write to me here quickly and confirm. Your loving friend, Paul.
Now anyone who has ever studied the bible and read
the letters of the apostle Paul, can surely understand the significance of this
letter. Through my sources, I have had
this letter authenticated. It is not a
forgery
The bible makes no reference to the Apostle Paul's ultimate fate. He simply disappears

About the Book
“Revelation 23” {the play} brings the words of Jesus
from the past to the present with a twist of science, superstition, and
interpretation, which culminates in unsuspected consequences. Jesus Christ is brought back through
genetics, tested, tried, and judged in our way in the present. It is very interesting to feel and replay
such a historic time in the 21st century.
This play throws caution to words subjected to
interpretation, as all words most surely are.
It also points out that interpretation is a very personal thing and can
have dangerous consequences when injected with a dose of the heard
mentality. It travels a fictitious path
of the “what if,” through the corridors of subjective interpretation and
finally arrives in the theatre of unintended destruction. It is almost fictitious enough to be
believable. Hopefully, not quite!
About the Author
William's background is one of a technical and
engineering nature, although his interests have always been in the beauty of
language and the power of carefully crafted words. He has spent 30 years in a
politically and religiously passive state, thinking that no one opinion in such
areas could possibly make the slightest dent in the fenders of ya's and na' s.
His life was one of comfort and contentment and was perfectly willing to sit
back and watch politicians, religious leaders, teachers, and soccer moms spout
their varying opinions as to how the world should turn at the speed of their
own personal beliefs.
Then one day as the world was turning and the one he
loved was turning with it, his literary fire was ignited as he found himself standing
very still and very alone. A profound feeling of emptiness engulfed him and he
finally awakened to the fact that the spoken word was the most temporary of
things and could never be a lasting fulfillment. It also occurred to him that
the spoken word was derived from the wind and forever blows with it. William
suddenly began to envision the written word, as being the exclusive library of
all human thought and the only lasting comfort given to human expression. It
being the only place in which we are truly free to express ourselves, without
the fears of repercussions of politics, religion, soccer moms and yes, so
called loved ones.
Therefore, this is his story of which he expresses
himself freely and fearlessly; for as surely as the wind blows with all it's
ferocity through the words from speaking lips and dissipates through fading
memories, his written words will endure forever.
