When I arrived at the salon, the crowd hadn’t started.
Good, I thought. I
should have time to set up.
As I walked in, I noticed that Tee-Tee had a strange look on
her face.
“What’s up?” I asked.
She smiled and looked towards my booth.
Moe is sitting in my chair.
She’s staring at me like I’m a piece of candy. Damn, she looks good.
I blushed and turned to face Tee-Tee.
“Why didn’t you call my cell to let me know she was here?” I
quickly whispered.
“She just got here a few minutes ago,” Tee-Tee explained in
a whisper.
“Is she still staring at me?” I quietly asked.
Tee-Tee nodded in agreement.
“How do I look?” I continued.
“Girl,” Tee-Tee chuckled, “you look nice. Just go over there
and talk to her. After all, she’s
in your space.”
I took a deep breath and walked nonchalantly to my
booth. I didn’t say anything to
Moe. I just began to set up my
booth.
“Are you wearing those jeans or are they wearing you?” Moe
smiled.
I glared at her and asked, “Moe, what do you want?”
“You,” she replied.
I quickly turned around to reach for something on the
shelf. I don’t want her to see me
blushing. I can’t let her know that
she’s getting to me.
Then, I heard her quietly sing, “Just to be close to
you--girl--”
“The Commodores,” I said as I turned to face her. “What do
you know about them?”
“Nothin’,” Moe shrugged. “I just like the song. I thought
about it when you walked in.”
I stood there staring at her.
She returned the stare.
Finally, I broke the silence, “I’ve got an appointment arriving
in twenty minutes.”
“Cool,” Moe said as she stood. “Can I make an
appointment?”
“Tee-Tee and I don’t trade customers,” I said plainly.
“I know,” Moe nodded. “I’m just trying to get some time with
you.”
I looked into her eyes.
Shit, I can’t fight this anymore.
I slowly smiled and said, “I’ll be here until about eight
tonight. I’m free after that.”
Moe smiled and walked towards me.
We’re close enough to kiss.
“See you then,” she whispered.
I can feel my body heating up.
She stood close to me a little longer. It’s as if she’s waiting for me to say
something. I just looked up into her
eyes with a smirk on my face.
Then, like a cat in the night, she was gone.
I took a deep breath and glanced over at Tee-Tee. She smiled and continued to do her
customer’s hair.
