As Remorseless as the Tides of the Ocean

He feels it coming on and he cannot stop it--

“Who is really to say that the healing and change is necessary?

Who is really justifiably sound in judging the right from wrong when concerning a damned man and his earthly turmoil and the fashion in which he is to deal with it?--The palliative game is evident.”

The bottle is empty and it is on and there is no end in reach and within what is known as Reason.

The apparitions he has deemed, critics, and he is speaking at, and through, them.

“Why, if we are to assume, that man is sane, why not rather insane? And that man’s strivings are toward happiness, why not unhappiness? Or rather, indifference?

Is there something to be said for insanity?

Let me, critics, myself, delve into hypocrisy, into assumption and hypothesize.

Am I now to say that every man, if possessed of the inclination toward self-knowledge, looks within himself for his truth and that he blindly endeavors on a pilgrimage through his aspects and facets and comes upon a loss, a consuming loss, an irrational emptiness without resolve? Without answers?

These men of loss and even perhaps pain cannot accept their blindness and so the inevitable palliative is introduced.

What I am to say, critics, is that every man palliates himself from himself.

I will not say as to whether that is sane or insane.

I will, most emphatically state that I think it disgusting to condemn a man for the fashion in which he palliates for we are, indeed, all subject to such the endeavor.”
