About the Book

So . . . you’re a man who likes ballroom dancing. You’ve heard that you can sail the oceans of the world in exchange for dancing with beautiful, single women.  It’s true!  I’m living proof.  I’ve been dancing the Seven Seas since 1989.  You can too, and you’ll find out how inside these pages.

For example: What exactly does a dance host do?  How do you get invited aboard? And, most important, how do you “stay” invited.  What if you didn’t know that you can get thrown off at the next port for having bad breath, for going to a female passenger’s stateroom, or for not keeping your pants pressed?  In this book you’ll learn all the nitty-gritty of Gentleman Dance Hosting.

So . . . whether you’ve just been invited for your first gig, or you’ve been hosting for years, this book - the first of its kind - will give you the ins and outs, the inside scoop if you please, on how to become a Gentleman Dance Host.  But better yet, how to survive as a Gentleman Dance Host.

Here’s your first lesson:  Brush your teeth, put on your best cologne, press your pants, then stroll down to the luxury lounge and say to that pretty single lady sitting on the front row, “May I have this dance?”

About the Author

vanLee Hughey is actively traveling the world as a dance host with private groups as well as luxury cruise lines and a cabaret-style ballroom dancer when at home. He has performed successfully in major ballroom competitions, danced at major studios in the southeastern United states, hosted, and taught on cruise ships since 1989.

At the insistence of one of his students who was plagued by life long neuromuscular dysfunctions he formalized an effective coordination development program. He taught this Dance Therapy as a regular part of Emory University’s community course schedule. While his dance work has included light opera as a singer/dancer, his hosting has landed him on the Phil Donahue Show.

By 1996, Lee knew that he’d rather be dancing on the oceans of the world instead of adding other plaques to his wall of data processing and leadership successes. An early retirement opportunity from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia made the major life change possible opening the door to a life undreamed of by most.
