About the Book

What went wrong?

Why do so many promising students who worked diligently throughout high school, got admitted to prestigious universities, and studied at the nation’s top colleges such as Harvard, Duke or Wellesley find themselves without meaningful job prospects or other favorable future plans upon graduation?

Through a collection of candid question-and-answer passages, a Harvard honors graduate shares how he avoided such misfortune.  By relating his first-hand experiences that were marked by trial and error, determination and inspiration, Paul J. Kim pinpoints how he:

  1. Gained admission to several Ivy League-caliber universities while attending the highly selective Stuyvesant High School in New York City;
  2. Spent his undergraduate years at Harvard preparing for the future; and
  3. Developed a rewarding professional career that spans international management consulting, Wall Street finance and Corporate America.

He reminds us of the often-overlooked fact that attending a competitive college is meaningless unless a person transforms that precious opportunity into a solid foundation for one’s future.  His numerous personal insights and observations will help students, whether college-bound or in college, to negotiate effectively the difficult challenges that confront those traveling the path from high school to college and beyond.
