Deep In The Woods

“Nooo--!” I screamed. I dropped the matches out of my hands. “This can’t be happening. Did he really just do it?” I screamed out loud. “Please, no, God! Not her. Please, Lord!” I screamed again. I promised her we would get out of here okay. “You filthy pig!”  I screamed. Gil dropped Beverly and started to walk toward me.

Oh God, not Beverly, not Beverly! Gil was looking at me with the look of murder in his eyes. I was next.  I jumped off the porch and headed right into the woods. My last thought before I ran into the woods was that I let Beverly down.

Gilbert watched her drop the matches. He knew she wouldn’t be able to use them. He walked slowly up to her. His daddy was screaming at him the whole while. He heard his daddy calling him a stupid fool. No woman in her right mind would ever want one of his retarded sons. Sorry excuse for a son, Otis kept saying. More like those sissy boys of that Beverly woman. Otis kept telling Gil to get him out of those clothes and to give him a bath before he gave him a good lickin’. One that he’d needed for a long time. Just then, the lioness made a wild jump off the porch. She was headed into the woods. The woods where all his traps were set. Gilbert would definitely catch her. Gilbert needed to take care of one last thing first. The lioness wouldn’t get far. Gilbert bent down and picked up the book of matches. He took one and held it over his daddy’s lap. Otis just shut up.  He stopped screaming suddenly. He looked up at his son with pleading eyes.

Gilbert knew it was all over. Better to leave no survivors. He would hunt down the lioness and then come back for the real sissy boys. They must be hidden around here somewhere. The lioness must have made sure of that too, but for now, they could wait. He would finish them last.

The sissy boys were the least of his worries.

He looked straight into his Daddy’s eyes. Otis knew what his son was about to do. Otis spit in his face and called him a sissy. Gilbert, with madness in his eyes, would have the last word. “Ain’t never been a sissy, Daddy. Just been raised by the devil, that’s all!”

Gilbert lit the match and dropped it on his daddy’s lap. Gilbert’s last words to his Daddy were, “Burn in hell, where you belong!”

Gilbert ran off into the woods to track down the lioness. As he headed off in search of her, his house and his Daddy went up in flames.
