As they reach the courtroom, Rex
and Krystina could hear the prosecution
cross-examining Sharon very harshly.
Standing in the back of the courtroom, they viewed what was taking place
in the front of the courtroom. The prosecutor
was doing a very impressive job trying to establish to the jurors that Sharon
committed this murder because she had ample time and a motive for wanting Peter
Roberts’s dead. Some of the questions
were tricky so Anthony would object to them.
However, the judge would overrule on some of the objections. The more Krystina
watched Sharon, the more she knew she had to do something and soon. Although Sharon was a strong person, this
trial was taking a toll on her. She
could see that from where she was standing.
No one knew Krystina
was standing in the back of the courtroom.
They were so into the prosecutor hammering away at Sharon, they were
totally unaware she had walked in. Not
able to stand what Sharon was being put through, Krystina
told Rex she was going to stop this. He
looked at her and said; "Before you go up there remember what I told you a
few minutes ago." Shaking her head Krystina started walking toward the front of the courtroom.
As Krystina
walked down the center aisle of the courtroom, Sharon gasps shockingly and whispered
her name. All questions ceased and
everyone in the court, including the judge, Anthony and Patricia looked to see
what had caught Sharon’s attention.
Suddenly the entire courtroom
became silent as all eyes became glued to her.
Although she appeared to be calm, Krystina was
very nervous at this point. She focused
her attention on Sharon and what needed to be done and continued walking until
she reached the front of the courtroom.
Because the court was comfortably
warm, Krystina’s fur coat was now opened. The court spectators were noticing the outfit
she was wearing under her fur coat. She
had removed the black leather gloves from her hands and was now carrying them
along with her purse.
After the brief pause, silence
desisted and voices could be heard all over the courtroom. The courtroom became noisy and in an
uproar. The people unfamiliar with the
Ray family were asking, "Who is she?"
Those who recognized her were wondering what kept her away all this
time. The judge, totally frustrated by now,
had to get some kind of control over the court.
Immediately he started pounding with the gavel demanding for order to be
restored immediately or he would empty the courtroom. The court finally came under control after
the judge issued that last threat.
The judge then turned his
attention to Krystina. Staring at her, “Young lady, have a seat or I
will have you removed from this court,” he orders. “How dare you come in here and disrupt my
court?”
"Your Honor, I apologize for
the disruption," began Krystina. "That was not my intention. I'm here because I have pertinent information
that may help Sharon Anderson and I would like to testify."
"You have pertinent
information about this case and you've just decided to come forward. Where have you been hiding? Forget that question. I'll let the prosecutor asked you
later," he said in criticism.
Krystina
was about to say something when the judge asked her another question. "Who are you anyway?"
Immediately
half the courtroom went into another uproar. They were appalled that he did not know her
identity. After all
this family was always in the newspaper, especially in the society and business
section. Once again the judge
warned the people to be quiet or he would clear it at once.
Elsewhere in the courtroom, a
reporter laughing said to another, "Just think, five minutes ago this case
was boring and going nowhere. I was
about to ask my boss if she would take me off of this one and give me something
that's a little more interesting. With
her showing up to testify, this story has just become exciting again. I think I will stick around for the duration
because I can't wait to see the outcome now."
Finally, the court settled down
and the judge was able to continue.
"I see my question has
generated an outburst from some of you,” he said condescendingly as his gaze
wondered all over the court. Resting his
eyes on Krystina he said, “I skipped over that
society section article in the newspaper that plastered your picture and I miss
the news last night that showed your face.
So pardon my ignorance, but indulge me this one time, please."
