About the Book

Wilhelm Gombert is a well-known tenor at Berlin’s Civic Opera House. At the beginning of Hitler’s Third Reich, his son, the eleven years old boy Dieter grows up, telling his story .He develops into a handsome young man. However, according to Hitler’s mad racial theories, a Jewish mother supposedly, handicaps Dieter. His eager adventurous spirit enters Berlin’s entertainment establishment until he is so successful that he is offered the lead part in one of Dr. Goebbels movies. At this point his racial status is found out. He is told that he belongs into a concentration camp, however he is granted freedom if he swears never to enter another movie studio.

Dieter’s anti-Nazi activities get him into trouble with the Gestapo. He is being searched and sentenced to death in absentia. In October 1944 he succeeds to escape into Switzerland and freedom.


About the Author

Dieter grew up in Berlin, obtained mechanical engineering degree. Son of an opera singer pursued a career as actor, dancer and singer. Escaping Gestapo pursuers gained Swiss asylum. 1945 immigrated to Stockholm appearing at Oskar Theater. 1948 immigrated to America.

On board Stavangerfjord he met Patricia. Struggled three months in New York. Summer 1949 moved to Chicago and Patricia. Rejoined a State Fair tour. 1950 married Patricia. After a Concert Tour he and his bride went to Europe. 1953 returned to Chicago where Dieter started his engineering career. 1965 joined a Los Angeles firm to work in Frankfurt Germany.

1971 joined Mobil Oil working thirteen years in Europe. Retired he lives in Florida.
