About the Book
This book is dedicated to my husband, Robert, my sons, Shane and DeJuan, my granddaughter, Shayla, my mother and step-father, Carrie and Timothy Conley, my brothers, Loade, Jr., Sylvester, in his loving memory, Jimmy, Donell, and Dr. Jerry Johnson, my church family of World Deliverance Temple, and my two best friends, Doris and Mina.
At times it is difficult to put your feelings in words and verbally express them. Poems On Occasion serves as an outlet to express my inner feelings when coping with difficult and stressful situations, as well as an instrument to reveal and share the sentiments of my heart with others. The contents of the poems in this book are written to be useful in assisting you when looking for just the "right words” to say when occasions occur in your life.
During most of my lifetime I have been the type of person who would have something to say, but for whatever reason, I was fearful and would not speak up and say it. I have withheld within myself natural and spiritual knowledge that I should have shared with others. Realizing that God did not give us the spirit of fear, I prayerfully submitted this concern into his hands, and I truthfully believe that Poems On Occasion has been given to me as a gift from God to be used as a tool to express myself without being fearful, as well as being a blessing to others in the process.
Upon reading some of the poems I had written, I began receiving requests from my fellow church members to compose poems for various occasions to be held at our church. Before writing each poem I pray and ask God to give me the words he wants me to say. God is an awesome God. It always amazes me to experience how the words flow within my head. Many times I am awaken out of my sleep as I hear the words being given to me in answer to a prayer for a poem that I need to write. In obedience to the Holy Spirit, I arise and write the words down, and after putting all my thoughts together, a poem is born.
