About the Book

The story is set in rural Michigan early in the twentieth century and opens with the Groners in the bedroom struggling through that first night after escaping the villainous woman.  Clydis and Edith escaped her talons and made it home to Jericho but still fear for Edith’s safety.  The villainous woman was still loose.  The outcome of a courtroom trial also hung over them.  Also, having been reared differently, she wondered if she could rear Edith properly.

Their story is flavored by colorful, often humorous, characters who share in the dread of a muddy road.  The muddy road is symbolic to situations of suspense, romance, humor, horse rustling, kidnapping, life-threatening injuries, terror, tragedy, passion, woe, and triumph.  While coping with the situations, Clydis becomes indispensable in the community, but her friendship leads to a compromising situation at the little farm on Jericho.

The Brown Mud Of Jericho is the second of the Jericho Books by T. F. Platt, following on the success of  If We Make It To Jericho.  The Jericho stories are intended for adults and young adults.  The tales aren’t lewd and they omit cussing.

About the Author

T. F. Platt enjoyed his first writing success in grade school, discovering that he could entertain by reading aloud the story or skit that he’d written.  During his years as a college professor, his articles appeared in the scientific press.  He also served eleven years as a national science editor.  The idea for the Jericho series of books occurred in 1975 when he visited his mother at her retirement complex.  Nearby was a railroad bridge that in the author’s mind became Lower Lead Bridge and a walk around the area soon identified other prominent features of the Jericho stories.

As recreation Mr. Platt flies a Piper Cherokee.  He has also uses an antique backhoe to landscape their four acres into ponds and leafy lanes that his children, grandchildren, and friends ply by golf cart.  At the ponds, Grandma Helen or Uncle Ben may assist the little ones in fishing techniques.

Author and family reside in southern Michigan, some one hundred fifty miles from the site of his Jericho stories.  They have four grown wonderful children and four marvelous grand children all of whom serve as inspiration for the writer.
