The sun was rising slowly in the
east as government troops surveyed the damage left behind by the exploded
meteor. It was not a pleasant sight for one who was weak at heart. For there were many buildings that were completely destroyed.
Dead bodies were inside buildings, which had been demolished. Many people
busied themselves cleaning up around their own structures. People were trying
to salvage what they could, and to the best of the abilities. Much panic and
shouting could have been heard above the voices of those who were wounded and
were calling out to for help.
Government officials and soldiers
had much work on their hands therefore. As soldiers took care of the dead and
moved them to holding places for identification, a solitary aircraft approached
from the east and landed. Landing gear descended and a stairway descended from
the craft. Six uniformed men with electronic equipment at hand exited the craft
that had just landed. On the side of the craft the name ‘Gold Rush’ was
written. The men who exited the Gold Rush were not soldiers. They seemed to be
a surveying team, headed by a man who would later be known as the Captain. Fire
trucks sirened back and forth
rendering help for fires and for health purposes as needed. Any traffic
that would have been on the streets of the city at that time was halted.
The area in which the city was
located, in ancient times it was known as the Mojave Desert.
And it was still called by that name at the time the meteor enter the Earth’s
atmosphere. All over the desert were to be seen glitters and sparkles in the
desert sand. Government officials and military personnel were more interested
in helping those who needed help. It did not take long however for members of
the surveying team to take notice of what they were seeing in the desert sand.
The surveying team from the Gold
Rush spread themselves out in the desert as they tried to make sense of what
took place the night before. Heshim, a member of the
surveying team from the Gold Rush, was bent at the knees in an area where he
was of surveying in moderate piece of the debris from the meteor. The Captain
was only a short way off from Heshim, when Heshim called to the Captain. “ Captain,
come over here!” Heshim called out. Heshim’s eyes seemed to widen as he spoke. He was so
excited at what he was looking at, that he started picking at the meteorite
with an instrument he had removed from the side of his boots. Heshim was then picking small pieces of soft yellow
material from the piece off meteorite.
Responding to Heshim’s
call, the Captain walked towards him. The Captain stood beside him and spoke
with him. He too was interested in what Heshim found.
“ What is it, Heshim? What
is going on?” asked the Captain.
Heshim
was beside himself. He could barely contain his excitement as he told the
captain, “ You have to see this!” The Captain,
realizing there must be something to Heshim’s
excitement, knelt down beside him, as Heshim pointed
out his findings. Heshim continued to explain to the
captain as he told him “ This has to be gold! Gold, I
tell you! These pieces of meteorite to are loaded with gold. Do you know what
this means?”
