Agent Fibbs met with all of the family members at Jeff and Tina's home. He assured them all, that the kidnappers would call again, and that they wouldn't harm the hostages. " There is a lot of money to be made, " Fibbs said. " They won't just give up that easy. "
Tina's husband, Jeff, said,
"You assure us? How can you possibly stand there and assure us of anything? You know absolutely nothing about these kidnappers. As far as we know, they could have killed them all, and gotten out of the country by now. So don't stand there and assure me of anything. You have no idea if my wife is still alive or not. You have no idea if Jims wife is alive or not. You have no idea if Kathy, Kim and Susan are still alive or not. The fact is Mr. Fibbs, you really don't know anything, do you? "
" I know how these people work. I have been dealing with these kinds of situations for many years now. I know what I'm doing. And yes, from time to time, there are casualties. "
" Casualties? Casualties, Mr. Fibbs? They may be simply casualties to you, but to us, they are people. People we love very dearly. And what you and your men did, may have gotten them all killed. And that, Mr. Fibbs, is totally unacceptable. "
" I'm sorry Mr. Stone. I'm sorry for all of you. I will continue to keep all of you informed. Now, I really must leave. "
He was just coming into view of the cabin, when he heard a loud scream. One of the women was screaming, " HELP! HELP ME! HELP ME!,"
He took off running to the sound of her voice. He saw Kathy running towards the cabin from the far end of the clearing. She was outside without a weapon, and now she was paying the price for not listening when she was told to never go outside without one. She was being chased by a very large bear, and it was getting closer to her with every step. It has been a hot, dry year, and the bears were having trouble finding the berries that they normally eat every year. So they look for food wherever they can get it.
Larry knew he was going to have to stop this bear quick, or it would catch Kathy, and she would probably die for sure, or wish she had. He lifted his rifle and shot at the running bear. He missed. He took careful aim and fired again. This time he hit the bear. It staggered a bit, but kept running after Kathy. He quickly shot again, but the bear kept running. He must have missed again. He was running out of time, and he only had one round left in the rifle.
As the other four women stood in the doorway of the cabin yelling, " HURRY! HURRY!,"
Larry quickly knelt down and rested his arm on his knee, and took aim again. Just a few more strides and the bear would have her. He gently pulled the trigger, and the bear tumbled to the ground while Kathy ran the next forty or fifty feet to the safety of the cabin.

About the Author
Larry Radecki lives just outside the small town of Clifford, in the state of Michigan. He has been a machinist most of his working life, but also did some construction work during that time. He was born in Pontiac Michigan, June 28th, 1956. He has no wife or kids at this point, but he does have a small Pomeranian dog named Paris.
He loves to write in his spare time. He has written several poems and several songs, but this book has been his greatest accomplishment in the writing field. He never published any of the songs or poems, but feels strongly that he has written a good book, worthy of being published.
