“I don’t think he particularly liked your answers but I
adored them.” I said smiling from ear to ear.
“I don’t care. He
doesn’t run my life now or ever. Let him
get a crush on someone else. You’re the
only man I want in my life right now Jack.”
She held me tightly as we gracefully moved across the
floor. I glanced back at Travis who
looked like someone who just found out he was about to be a loser in the
Russian Roulette contest. His face was without emotion or expression as
a person in a slow burn. I noticed his
hands seemed to be firmly gripped tight making a fist. A fist fueled by frustration. His eyes recorded our every move. I looked and smiled at Maria for just a
moment than my eyes moved back to Travis, but he was gone.
We stayed at Kelly’s for a little while longer. Through the rest of the evening the name
‘Travis’ never resurfaced. When we left I respected Maria’s request to not accompany me back to the
trailer with the possibility of Travis still being there. I kissed her and bid her farewell out by her
car.
I proceeded to return home.
I didn’t see Travis anywhere around the trailer so I entered. I had no idea if he was going to come back to
spend the night or not after what transpired earlier this evening. I left the front door unlocked just in case
he came back to full fill his two-night commitment. That way I wouldn’t have to get up to let him
in. Besides, I thought it was for the
best that I not get into a conversation with him.
I had found my relaxing point where I was starting to drift
to slumber-land when I heard the front door open and light being turned
on. There was a moment of silence then
the slow unwavering footsteps heading down the hall toward my room. As the door slowly opened I pretended to be
asleep. He paused for a moment then
moved into the room. I could feel his
presence very close to me. Then
gradually the temperature around my temple became cooler and I heard a click as
he cocked his revolver. All kinds of
thought enter my head and rushed trough my panicked brain. I tried to act like I didn’t know he was even
there.
That moment, which seemed like an eternity with a gun barrel
almost touching my skin, finally came to a conclusion. Warmer air brushed back against my skin as I
heard the gun’s hammer being eased back into place. I listened to the sound of him leaving my
bedroom and shutting the door abruptly.
