A touching humbling story that will make a difference in your life!  How does a young Mexican boy lose his dominant right hand in an accident at age 7?  How does he then proceed to become a star athlete in grammar school, high school, and earn a basketball scholarship to a Division One college against his father’s support.  The more adversity he encountered and confronted in his life, the stronger his spirit became.  “No pity party” for him!

 

He was a 3 time “District High School Basketball Coach of the Year.”  After his divorce, he also coached his son’s youth basketball team to 3 consecutive Golden State Championships and 2 National AAU Jr. Olympic Basketball Titles.

 

In between his coaching passion, he became a multi-millionaire by age 44.  With numerous real estate investments and shared most of it generously until the bank expired.

 

And in reaching closure with the loss of his hand.  It was a little girl who took his hand and told him it was beautiful, awesome and cool.  She insisted unwaveringly for him to tell her second grade class about his missing hand.  Since then 1999, he has become an inspirational and motivational speaker in grades K thru 12.  The results have been phenomenally astonishing!

 

That’s why Cierra, his precious grand-daughter, who more than anyone else helps him connect with himself.  She opened a door that he had kept securely shut and locked since the day he lost his hand.  She touched more than his hand, she touched his heart.

 


About the Author

Sal Gaytan was born on December 24, 1933 in Yuma, Arizona.  He was raised in La Puente, a small rough tough town in southern California to the age of fifteen in a business environment.  He was a gifted athlete and excelled in all the sports since he can remember.  His passion in life has always been to participate in every sport and coach.  To reach out and touch every child around the world and make a difference!

 

He went to Cathedral High School in downtown Los Angeles.  He was a 3 year “All Catholic” league player in basketball.  In his senior year he was elected Student Body Secretary-Treasurer.  He spent 3 semesters at St. Mary’s College on a basketball scholarship and graduated from U.S.C. in 1958, with a Spanish major and a psychology minor.  He attended Southwestern law school for one year.  

 

He is divorced and has a 43 year old son, Sal and a 39 year old daughter, Noel.  Cierra, his grand-daughter, who is his “pride and joy” and a star athlete, has been his unbelievable inspiration, to complete this book.
