Bibi went to the airport to meet Ekow. When the plane finally arrived and Ekow came out, Bibi was stunned. She could not believe her eyes. Was that Ekow? He looked even more handsome than she had seen him in the pictures that Akos had been sending her. As he walked towards her, she could see he had great stature, enormous strength, broad square shoulders, and a retreating stomach. He had full hair.
“Hi, I guess you are Ekow,” welcomed Bibi.
“Yes, and I guess you are Bibi. Akos still has your pictures”
At the sound of Ekow’s voice, a queer feeling threaded its way up from the pit of Bibi’s stomach. Bibi had secretly fallen in love with Ekow the first time she received his picture from her friend Akos. Things got worse when Akos kept on writing good stuff about her sweetheart. At first, Bibi had assured herself that it was only a fantasy, which would wear off with the passing of time. She did not want to have an affair with her best friend’s fiancé. She was wrong. Her desires for this handsome gentleman had grown stronger and stronger with the days. Now face-to-face with him, she thought she could not resist him. He was the kind of man who defined rough-edged sex appeal. Despite her feelings, she assured herself she wasn’t in love, and yet she could not take her eyes off his face. Their
eyes met in frank admiration. Bibi’s admiration was eros, but Ekow’s on the other hand was nothing sensual.
“Do I look different from my pictures?” asked Bibi.
“No, you look as pretty as your pictures,” he assured her.
Bibi was flattered. “Do I?”
Ekow didn’t really like their topic of discussion, so he evaded Bibi’s last question by changing the topic.
“Do you live far from here?”
“Yes, I live in Alexandria, not too far though,” Bibi answered, disappointed that their interesting topic for discussion had been changed
“How long is the drive?” Ekow asked, anxious to
get home and relax after a long day’s journey.
“About thirty minutes’ drive,” Bibi said in response.
When Ekow was all set, they set off to Alexandria. They had very little to say to each other on their journey home. Though they had heard so many good things about each other from Akos, they were yet to discover the truth.
