About the Book

Who could guess that a common, ordinary, every day fly could be special. Yet, in Freddie The Fly, the reader will soon recognize that Freddie is, indeed, quite special. Like anyone of us, the little guy unfortunately has a bad habit. His friends warn him, even scold him, but again like any of us, he does not heed their advice. Happily flying into his destiny, Freddie not only entertains but gives a powerful lesson as well. Join him and his friends as they do what every good fly does best, buzz around and look for the occasional feast to be had. Perhaps we, too, can learn the lesson Freddie learns before our own habits take us down our own path to the ultimate misadventure. To all of his readers of any age, Freddie would be sure to say, “Eat, hum and be happy!” And, then, he might add, “Good luck!”

About the Author

H. William Berger, known to his special Grand Children as ‘Papa Bill’, has been a prolific but relatively undiscovered artist in oil paintings, poetry, prose, music and lyrics for many years.

A world traveler, he has led an extraordinary, adventuresome life in which, as he puts it: There have been ample challenges, sufficient controversy and enough disappointment (in self and others both ‘in-country’ and ‘out-country’) to get a wise man confused or make a saint mumble under his breath.  “Never the less,” he quickly adds, “I have also been blessed with several true and trustworthy friends and a loving, supportive family.  That is worth far more than anything else in this worldly life.”

A licensed commercial, instrument, multi-engine pilot, ‘Bill’ has also owned and operated a trucking company in Illinois. He has operated long-distance trucks, busses or planes in every state but Hawaii and traveled within numerous foreign countries as well.

An avid fan of literature, he has compiled two large volumes of his poetry; Jongleur’s Dalliance and Works of a Mad Monk  plus a lyrical collection, Melodies of a Dusty Lute .  His first novel, Fan the Flame, is complete and he is working on future novels, Suffer the Saints and the Children and The Bog Babies .

Papa Bill’s ‘  latest artistic endeavor strikes even closer to the heart.  His illustrated “youth” books include, Papa’s Sara Wants To Bake,  Tall-Tale Katie,  Freddie The Fly,  Blake Finds A Friend,  Young Billy Flies A Plane ,  Larry Gator , Emily’s Hats , A Different Night Before Christmas and more.  Bill and his devoted wife, Celia, hope to publish all of his works within the near future.

According to him, “Writing for the Grand Children, promoting a love for reading within any youngster, is well worth the effort it may take.  They are truly, after all, our future and our blessing.”
