To My Wife
How often when lost in my reverie,
my thoughts resurrect loves of yesteryear.
I ponder on all that they meant to me
and all that had made them so loved and dear.
But as these figments coalesce and clear
I understand my attraction to you.
You’re the composite of all they’d endear --
the sum of the loves that my heart felt true.
You are the one for which I searched—my quest is through.
Life’s tides will bring both joy and pain.
Soul, skill and wit all wax and wane.
At ebb you must repair and bear.
At flow new heights you can attain.

James (Jim) Cox is a retired aerospace physicist living outside of
He is now a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets and has successfully completed all of the requirements for Poet Laureate in that society. His poems appear in several magazines and many anthologies published by the Poetry Guild and his verses appear in the Best Poems & Poets of 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
