About the Author

John V. Barbieri has written a second “Trivia” book about New York City, a response to the public’s warm reception to the first one.  John has been appearing on talk shows, writing New York City tidbits in magazines, giving eminently listenable sermons about the City to a variety of groups and associations, and just chatting about the City to almost anyone who wants to chat about the City.  He has become New York City Expert Number One on the web.  Check it out at www.allexperts.com.

Inspired by one of his law school professors to turn this love of the city -- which the professor shares -- into a form that could foster the interest and devotion of others, he has now produced Volume Two.  The ostensibly uninterested are likely to find themselves quickly drawn in by a host of questions they never thought to ask and by a multiple choice format for the answers that keeps them guessing, but then gratifies them with the answer -- and a neat little explanation.  What was the last city tavern to admit women?  Where is Icahn Stadium in NYC?  What park is built over a sewage treatment plant?  Where can you find a floating Blackbird in Manhattan?  How many dogs live in the city and what neighborhood has most pit bulls?  What is the city’s only landmark that has been deliberately kept in ruins?  Which item was legal in most of the U.S. - except Manhattan - until the ban was lifted in 1997?  How many NYC residents are over the age of 100?  How many manhole covers are there in the city?

The professor’s first response to the last question was, “Who cares?”  Then an ever-so-short pause, and the next question: How many?  So it goes with all the questions.  They create their own interest, gratifying veteran New York City buffs and earning new devotees among those who thought that they didn’t care.  A fun book, and an education.  You can’t beat that.
