Sorry To Ask
Minutes of silence pass
Over the stretch of eternity.
The phone loses its purpose
And falls to obscurity.
The truth, now known,
Proves my loss.
One question and answer—
And my heart is tossed.
I feared the unknown.
But now, I wish I did not know.
Why did I need to ask?
Everything was perfect, just so.
I followed my heart
Like one’s taught to do.
I ignored my mind
Though it normally proves true.
I went against habit,
My own fault,
But it will not sting forever,
As if a wound had been covered with salt.

Whisper
I’ve passed through these halls
For what seems to be forever.
No new doorways to open,
No routine from which to sever.
This is my life and who I am.
The simplicity of my life is not what it seems—
So much more is heard in loud whispers
Than in inaudible screams.
My life is a loud whisper,
Strongly soft and quietly heard.
I shall never scream for attention
Nor use angry words.
I will only be persistent,
A constant presence in the mind.
Never too harsh nor brutal
Just a little nagging over time.
I have no need for constant attention
Just a nod for periodic recognition.
I possess no desire to be forever remembered,
Solely reminiscent as a whisper.

About the Book
Changing Sky is a collection of poems written by a maturing teenage girl. The poems reflect on everyday occurrences and the emotions that result from them. The scope of subjects covers love, religion, emotions, and the awing nature of life as a whole. Written over a course of five years, the poems not only show the growth of a writer, but also display the growth of a girl into a young a woman.
About the Author
Author Heather E. Linton has always had a passion for writing, but of all the genres, poetry is her true love. As Changing Sky as her first published work, she shows the growth of a writer throughout the years. Heather began writing poetry at age fourteen, originally for a self-release, but as time passed and her love for poetry grew, Heather focused more on the deeper, less appreciated moments in life so often neglected by her peers. Now, her goal of writing is not only self-release but to share with others that the times and emotions they go through are mutually felt.
