About the Author
Valerie Goodwin-Colbert has been a coach in women''s basketball and professor of Health Education and Nutrition for the Athlete courses since 1980. She was named the top athlete in the state coming out of high school in Oklahoma, where she was a basketball and track and field athlete. Ms. Goodwin-Colbert played college basketball for one of the top national program of its'' time, Wayland Baptist University, where the Flying Queens vied for numerous national championships and NWIT wins. Her talents took her into the first professional women''s basketball league, the WBL, to play for the Dallas Diamonds.
Ms. Goodwin-Colbert has been a head or assistant women''s basketball coach for almost 25 years, at various N.C.A.A. Division I universities and California Community College system, a motivational banquet/seminar speaker, a clinician and a camp director. She has been a state and national leader in women''s basketball coaches'' associations for the last 14 years, and serves on the National Board of Directors for the Women''s Basketball Coaches Association. Ms. Goodwin-Colbert has published numerous articles for national magazines on female athlete''s nutrition and health issues. She''s a Champion is a work of passion that come from long-time encouragement of athletes and coaches, who have voiced their need for highlighting the uniqueness of the female athlete''s survival today.
