About the Book
Following extensive professional opportunities to work with young people, one of this author’s long-term goals was realized with the writing of her first book for young people in 2001 – Pencils Down and now H20.
Like Pencils Down, H20 is a summer adventure, but Tony, the main character, is a rising eighth grader with new experiences and challenges through service projects with scouts and church, conservation project with scouts, and being a member of the Canby Falls Middle School Swim Team.
H20 is appropriate for and will appeal to readers in the nine to fourteen age range, depending on their reading levels and interests. The writer’s intent is to appeal to reluctant readers also.
About the Author
Working professionally with young people as librarian, teacher, and principal has provided the background and insight necessary for writing to appeal to readers in the nine to fourteen age range. Also, one goal in H20 is to appeal to reluctant readers through the chapter format and high-interest activities.
D.H. was educated in the public schools and
Kelly has undergraduate and graduate degrees – Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Education Specialist in Administration. In addition, she has certification as a school librarian and has worked with college student interns in the elementary school setting.
Other interests include writing poetry, with many published. D.H. enjoys tennis and has volunteered with elementary students for six years.
