Poem:A composition in verse; lofty or imaginative writing or artistic expression.
The ability to express yourself and communicate can be as easy as it is hard. We usually know what we want to say, it’s finding the right words to say it that makes it difficult. Communication is ninety-three percent non-verbal. It’s amazing to think about, I know. This fact becomes more believable however, when you consider that much can be said through a certain posture, a facial expression or a distinct demeanor. The seven percent of communication that is verbal, is generally the most misinterpreted part. Inside of your head and inside of your heart though, you probably feel comfortable with your feeling and a point you want to make. It’s funny though, bringing those feelings from thoughts to words is where the translation can be tricky.
Feelings can be expressed in many ways. In song, through touch, facial expressions and in written and spoken word. For example, when you were growing up and a love interest gave you a love letter, it was very exciting. When someone dedicates a song to you, the feeling is warm and special. The touch of a person holding your hand or kissing your face is heart warming because they’re expressing affection for you. It’s both personal and thoughtful. Poetry, through the years has given so much to the communication of thought and feeling. It can capture a frame of mind, steal a place in the heart, or even stimulate the brain to think. It can challenge, it can educate and it can inspire. As you turn the pages ahead, please feel free to indulge in fantasy, day dreams and memory. If you laugh, laugh loud. It you cry, make each tear count. If you smile, let it be a warm one. If you remember, savor that memory, good or bad. The idea of thoughts and feelings should be to provoke your mind, and move your soul. Let your heart be tantalized, and let your spirit fly. Every heart is a poet and every voice a song. If you ever feel uneasy or unable to show your feelings or communicate your thoughts, reach for a poem. If no poem is available, just close your eyes and listen. The quiet is talking. You’ll hear your soul singing, and soon your thoughts and emotions will overflow into acts of expression. Let go and feel free to lose yourself in yourself.
The chapters to follow explore many emotions and subjects. Some of love found, some of love lost. Many that will motivate, and few that will make you question. Faith and family are explored and experienced. What you feel when you read these poems, I hope is a sense of stimulation. If your mind can be moved, and your emotions stirred, then it will be a good day. Enjoy poetry in all of its forms, whether it’s a song lyric or written words. You never know, maybe there’s a poem inside of you just waiting to surface.
