We must be still to “hear his voice,” to know his will. But he is there, and we can know him.
However, this is not to say that it is only through silence or meditation that he conveys his messages. Sometimes, alarms go off in our consciences, and we know that there is something wrong. We are violating something basic to our sense of integrity and well-being. We are clearly straying from the path, and we feel awful, like a giant boulder has just been dropped on top of us from above. Whether it be a transgression of lust, greed, gluttony, or hatred, our whole interior has transformed itself into a frightened child waiting to be punished. As we gain experience, we find that God does not punish us. It is our own moral sense that was thrown off-kilter. Once again, we must find a way to rise above our depression and realize that there is a way out of this predicament, and we know very well what that way is – to love God and follow his will. If you are sacrificing your love for the evil of lust, then in order to be right again, you must reject that lust in favor of love. If you are losing your very soul due to greed, then you must stop living that life of materialism and substitute the spiritual quest for it. If you are addicted to food, sex, or drugs, then you must acknowledge to yourself your sad predicament and choose the strength and support of God instead. And if you have given into hatred of who dislikes you and abuses you, you have got to realize your own ignorance and see that “hate does not dispose of hate; only love can conquer hate” (Buddha). For you see, your life, your morality is all in your hands. You can make good choices or bad ones. You need do only one thing: Put the will of God above all other influences, including thoughts and voices which we call temptations (which are actually a part of your own mind).
Permit me now to discuss an understanding of God’s will that is not of the same type as that which we have been discussing so far. The phrase, “God’s will,” is often used to indicate fate or destiny, that which will happen regardless of our wishes.

About the Book
God and Me is a book that many ought to write their own versions of. Dunne recommends that putting one’s mind to work in this sense, even if the writings never get published, would be highly worthwhile. It would be worthwhile. Many people aren’t clear on how they think about God and writing it down can be a good exercise for learning. In this book Dunne has expressed himself honestly and directly. He doesn’t like taking matters of God and reality lightly.
What he has written may seem shocking to you some of you. If your ideas and feelings are different from his, perhaps you can use this book to sharpen your own perceptions.
About the Author
Dunne has made good use of Authorhouse publishing. This is his third book with Authorhouse. His previous works are Underground Passages and Common Hearts, Common Minds. If you get hold of these earlier works, you will see the progression of his thought. He develops from being a near nihilist to a firm believer in God. This book is about his return to belief in the universal God, the one, true God.
