Or acceptance from the world that I am original In this 21st century world Swarming with billions It's hard to stand out It's hard to stand tall It's hard to stand at all I can barely see myself in the crowd Shrinking and blending into the collage Losing our identity, one twenty-something at a time Dissolving into an MTV generation stereotype Manipulated by the tube Brainwashed by those boomers We're not one, we are many ones WHAT WE ARE ALL LOOKING FOR Sometimes in life when there are no answers to find As you're wandering aimlessly, helpless and blind A light from above shines through the towering trees Comforting and warm like a light summer breeze Filling you up with thoughts of hope and wonder Dreams of a love that bears the power of thunder Expansive and surrounding like that mighty sound A connection and adoration knowing no bounds These are the wishes of everyone, you see Even though they fell silent, you're hearing it from me That every person searches far and wide For one destined lover to walk by their side FIRST LOVE, FIRST LOST Speaking only to me, an infectious verse plays Beating all the anguish back in; through my ears Into my essence Expanding Like a lung before taking its last breath Filling with air; the error of my ways Legs crammed with regret, weighing them down Stomach stuffed with loss, spinning uncontrollably Eyes flooded with memories, beginning to leak Before I left, she was my dam Protecting; sheltering me from unknown waters Now overflowing into sadness I dwell on my arduous coming of age.
