THE FAERY KEY
As we journey, take my hand.
We’ll go questing ‘cross this land.
We’ll use a cloud to cross the sky,
Let an eagle teach us to fly.
Our adventure is the stuff of a fairy tale.
Some say the quest for the holy grail.
We’ll hunt for treasures of silver and gold.
The very most precious or so I’ve been told.
There are many pathways we can enter.
No need to fight thorns to reach the center.
We can take to the woods for a jaunty walk.
Or climb up the gigantic, leafy beanstalk.
Some have fallen down a rabbit’s hole,
Or found passage sailing in the stormy sea.
All paths will lead to the very same goal,
The most magical, mystical faery key.
No matter if we travel by air, earth or sea,
We’ll reach that very same land
Where imagination runs fantastically free
And secrets are written in the sand.
Our faery key unlocks the castle door
And the treasure chest found inside.
But never, ever ignore the lion’s roar
Or gremlins or ghosts that hide.
For if you want to take your measure
And carry home this precious treasure,
You’ll have to show your heart is strong
To the ghouls and goblins there, belong.
You’ll find witches brewing cauldrons in the night
Chanting spells designed to fright.
Goblins cackling loudly to no one who’s in sight,
Snarling beasts promising a most venomous bite.
A giant’s eating tidbits that look just like French fries.
Swallowing tasty morsels, suspiciously just your size.
A dragon’s breathing fire while emerging from his cave.
To look into his emerald eyes, you have to be quite brave.
The truth, however, is different than you’d expect,
For the mists rising from the cauldron are there to help protect.
The Beast is just looking for his beloved Belle
And goblins have lots and lots of stories to tell.
Giants are snacking because that is what they do,
Treat them kind and friendly and they may just help you too.
The dragon signals welcome with a warm and flickering flame.
When you get to know them they really are quite tame.
Werewolves and monsters don’t have to be a foe,

About the Book
Told from the perspective of a shaman healer, this unique anthology reinvents old stories and creates new ones designed to guide and inspire readers in their own personal spiritual quests. In the manner of old-time teachings, ancient wisdom is revealed through poetry and fairy tales.

About the Author
Janet Rudolph is a backpacker, journeyer, social worker, author, martial arts student, chronicler of events, wounded healer, ordained shaman, spiritual teacher, keeper of sacred knowledge and teacher of the feathered serpent medicine wheel. She has been known to poke dragons for fire, dance with bees for honey and frolic with lions just for fun.
