I said patiently, standing up straight , rared back and tall, " Mama, wasn''t you jest fifteen years old when you and Daddy married? I''m fourteen now and I''m all growed up."
Mama turned slowly and looked at me, then narrowed her eyes and said, "Yeah, but I turned sixteen the very same month."
I asked, " Wasn''t Gran-ma Amberson jest thirteen when she married Gran-pa?"
Mama sighed, " She was but times were different then. It ain''t like it was then."
I said, " Mama, it''s 1959! Times HAVE changed! People have changed!
Me and Mama let the conversation end there but I shore wasn''t done with it yet.
