“He missed you this evening.” “I got tied up.” “I missed you too.” Her confession surprised them both. “Where’s Jeff?” he asked, finally noticing her look of dejection. “On his way to a medical conference.” She took a deep breath. “Or at least that’s what he told me.” When she voiced her fears about Jeff, he raised objections at first, but then listened quietly without interruption. Then when her voice broke, and her eyes filled with tears, he held her tightly and watched the rise and fall of her shoulders while she wept. He patted her shoulder, spoke soothingly for several moments and handed her his handkerchief. Then he waited while she dried her eyes. “Thanks for being such a good friend.” “You’re easy to care for.” He looked down at her. The musky, womanly scent of her body, her tousled hair and bare feet jarred his senses. And her unexpected vulnerability touched his heart. He pulled her into his arms. Her lips were salty with tears but also tasted of cinnamon and vanilla. Overwhelmed with desire, he kissed her ferociously for several long moments, pleased with the noises that came from her throat. When she seemed in no hurry to push him away, he grew rigid with excitement. She wanted him to make love to her. He gently stroked her nipples, rewarded with the slight tremor that raced through her body. She didn’t resist when he swung her up in his arms and carried her into the den. He removed his coat and draped it over a chair. They shared another long, deep scorching kiss while he ran icy hands over her warm, shapely body. She wore a floor-length, white gown with a matching bathrobe. And while he caressed her body, she shivered and trembled, excited about what was going to take place. “Are you sure?” he asked, kicking the door shut and loosening his tie. “No,” Cassie whispered, shaking her head. “But don’t stop.” “Okay, darling.” He eased her down on the floor and planted soft kisses on her forehead, eyelids, mouth and cheeks. Then he bent over her body, untied her robe, and unbuttoned her gown. Desire surged through her when their tongues meshed in a searing kiss, and he tugged off her black lace panties and began stroking the luscious triangle between her legs. His fingers were cool and gentle and felt unbelievably good. She moaned, pressed herself against his hand and reached for him. “Wait,” he said, trying to remain calm and not wanting to rush. He kissed her hands and placed them at her sides, “I haven’t even gotten started yet.” He ran his eyes and hands all over her dusky body, becoming more and more aroused. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered. She was curvaceously thin with small, rounded breasts and perfectly shaped hips and thighs, “and you don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to touch you like this.” He had waited seven long years, and he intended to take his time and savor each moment.

About the Author
Janet Henderson has an M.A. in English Composition/Writing from Northeastern Illinois University and an M.A. in Education from Concordia University. She teaches English Composition and writing in the City Colleges of Chicago. She has also taught at East-West University and Chicago State University. For several years, she worked for the Chicago Board of Education and served in the United States Army in the communications field. As the daughter of a marine, she grew up in Chicago, Virginia, North Carolina, California and Hawaii, and she often travels to Europe, Asia, Central and South America. Always a voracious writer and reader, she has penned numerous skits and poems since high school and has been a lover of romance stories as diverse as Romeo and Juliet, Gone With the Wind and Titanic. Though Lunch With Cassie is the first novel for the award-winning college news editor/reporter, she is presently at work on two others. She lives in Chicago.
